If the Cobalt you choose is indeed well cared for, I find these to be very reliable cars minus a few annoying suspension issues etc you can cheaply repair/upgrade.
I did this to my 2013 5.0. I put it 99% back to stock including the tune. I drove the hell out of that car for a year with a very aggressive tune and 8000 RPM rev limiter

OP try to find a 2008 SS/TC that is close to stock and seems well maintained you can often find them around 9-10K and you might be able to haggle them down a little.

Cool little cars. When I had mine I bought it used. Make sure to get all the recalls done on the car if they have not. What color is it? Can you get somebody else to insure it and put you on as a secondary driver...

Congrats on being 16 and having that much money saved. That's not something you hear everyday.

I would love to get the ss/tc but that's way out of my price range. I got this guy talked down to almost 5500$ because he needs the money soon for a SUV. I'm going to look at it Thursday or Friday. It's red btw. And I know to be careful with the car but I've drove a srt4 before so I think I might be alright with the power lol

Why does he keep droping the price? I don't buy the whole he needs money for a suv. Bring someone with knowledge of cars, if not bring a mechanic ( its worth the $100 ) if you don't know what the **** your looking at.

If it was me, and I could go do it all over again, id go buy a ls1 Camaro or transam for the same price, throw a cam, and bolt ons and have a 400whp car that runs 11s reliable .

If it was 8 years ago, Id say a 16 yr old shouldnt have anything that can do 14 seconds or less on the quarter mile. There are econo-cars out there faster than my first car I had :'(

I think the boy can handle 205hp. Its a good first car for a tuner if thats what you plan to do. If you got a hold of an LNF, then i'd be worried. Only take $350 to hop up to 300whp or more which would almost be double what a stock ss/sc can do.

I dont know about the whole thing now. We ran a carfax report and the previous owner before him had it for so many years and then this guy has had it for 25 days. Seems pretty sketchy to me. Kinda scares me to get it guys. What could be wrong with it?

test drive it. If theres a CEL dont buy it. If the clutch slips / transmission grinds every shift, question him about it and decide whether hes truthful or lying, Check the coolant level before and after. Note if the exhaust has a oil burning smell or has smoking coming out.

It maybe that he got the car for $5500 and is trying to make a quick profit. I see people in my area do that... lol. Or maybe he really doesnt want the car cause its not for him.

If he has only owned it for 25 days, he is most likely trying to flip cars on the side, or he found something he doesn't like about the car and he put it back for sale.

True. I can't wait to go see how it drives. If there's no problems with it then I'm definitely gonna get it. Then to work this summer to get a couple nice bolt ons

Spend the cash to take it to a shop and have a leakdown test done on it, if the motor health is good then there shouldn't be any problems....

Yeah they're good cars, the S/C has a bulletproof engine, pretty quick, very easy to mod and cheap to fix if/when things do go wrong. Just dont go getting any tickets at your stage in life :P

Actually more like 210-215 hp to the wheels stock.

That is more than enough power to get a young kid that isnt used to the car in trouble.

Any car can get you in trouble at this young and stupid age, ive had plenty of friends already wreck there stock 130hp cars (actually just had a friend get in trouble with a 15 passenger van). I personally think if you pay for the car, and pay for your own insurance you are less likely to drive stupid, just remember OP its not worth driving dumb when there is autoX events, and drag strips to go to that are pretty affordable.

Correct, and I agree about paying for your own car and insurance.

But a car that looks and sounds fast just aids in the reason to drive it fast in the eyes of a young kid.

I was young once. I remember the things I would do but wouldnt do now at almost 31.

Can't afford full coverage insurance on a SS S/C at 16. Cobalts are terrible to insure compared to other cars.
