Cobalt ss or rx8
I have a cobalt lt right now and looking to upgrade soon, just cant decide between the cobalt ss s/c and rx8. I really want the rx8 but i heard they have some engine reliability issues, has anyone owned the rx8 or both cars?

Ticking noise from the engine, taillights all fogged up, clutch was slipping pretty severely, he also got really bad gas mileage. Idk if the mpg's was how he was driving or what but he was constantly filling that thing up. I didnt like it and he sold it a couple of months later for a g35

I've had an rx8.....
Do not get an rx-8, they look cool as f***. Yes I know, I even had some mazdaspeed side skirts and cool mazdaspeed rear bumper with staggered wheels and lowered.
Rx-8's are unreliable, and they will never be fast. Their forum consists of people who have to justify how sweet it is in the twisties and constantly remind people that they can not gain huge horsepower from mods. Low compression will come out of nowhere, and fixing them is not cheap. It is a 1.3 liter engine producing 240hp and 160 tq, it is high compression with flawed design. I love the look, but other than that you are asking for trouble and disappointment.

They have an 9,500 rpm redline for a reason... peak power isnt until 8200, and there isn't much below that. The whopping 160 ft/lbs of torque kicks in at 5500. Basically you need to floor the thing anywhere and everywhere to feel any of its power. Part of the reason it gets such bad fuel economy. And if you think V-tech eats a lot of oil, try this thing out for a while. You'll be saying this a lot:
"I did an oil change at 20k miles, now I'm at 22k miles but my oil meter stick is still half way! Usually I add a quart of 5w20 every 1500 miles" - Actual quote from RX8 owner.

Yeah I thought Bout an rx8 at one point but after researching it's not worth it. My best advice is to take advice is to take advice. I was choosing between the rx8, Balt sc, or neon srt4 and I picked the Balt, I think it looks better than the srt4

I wouldn't buy one bc of everything mentioned above but, one of the best times ive ever had in a car was driving a drunk friend home on a damp night. If it wasnt wet you probably couldn't powerslide for **** due to complete lack of torque but in the wet that thing was an absolute blast.
Op unless you gotta be really different stay away from the rx8. Cobalt is a cheap easy modern vehicle to repair and maintain plus its pretty reliable

I've been through this phase too and still am considering an rx8 one day because I'll have a work vehicle so reliability isn't a factor. They do look sweet but as a daily driver there is just so much maintenance and the fuel economy is abismal. I've driven them a few times and it's unfortunate how they drastically lack power but those guys on the forums who praise their handling have a right to. Those things are gross around corners so if you prefer the bendies then this car is great. I've seen a relatively stock one keep up with an m5 on the track, which is where these shine.
One thing though, those rx8 r3s look nasty as hell.

I was going through the same Dilemma when buying my car. Ended up with my 06 ss/sc because i wanted to dd my car and not have to deal with rotary engine issues. Also, no one in my area knows how to work on them so id be in trouble if something major went wrong, which tents to happen a lot with those cars.
