Cobalt trans stuff I guess

hey there

i got a 2010 SS turbo on a tune. trans gave out, input shaft seems to do that rattle thing where it stops when the clutch is pressed, along with SOMETIMES shifting

tbh would it be easier to have it rebuilt. or find a used trans to put in.

Sounds like it just needs new hydraulics and a clutch?

hmm how would i verify that? it has a relatively new ACT clutch. It's just this horrendous sound that goes away when the clutch is pressed in. Not sure if hydraulics would make a clanging sound.

It would be unusual for the transmission to give out on the stock turbo. I ran 418wtq for several years with no issues. But then I upgraded the turbo and boom lol

oh shoot really lmao I've heard otherwise. Are there things i should check to verify it isn't the trans? To save me from pulling it

I don't do work myself on engine or trans so not sure how to trouble shoot what your issue is. Probably worth checking clutch first. Typically third gear disintegrates in these transmissions if you throw too big of a torque spike at it and more often than not is throws the gear pieces through the bell housing, like it did in my case:

I guess one relatively easy way to check the health of the trans is to drain the transmission fluid. If there are chunks of metal in it than you know what time it is...

It's the aftermarket clutch. Mine didn't rattle with the factory clutch but as soon as I went aftermarket I get a lil bit of rattle. The not shifting sometimes could be either the clutch dragging due to hydraulic issue or the clutch is actually falling apart like my clutchmasters did... twice. If the clutch engagement point is right off the floor and there's good pressure, I would look at the clutch before the trans. The third time I replaced my clutch I went with southbend stage 4 because that's what the gentleman from zzp recommended with my upgrades. He also said the reason why my clutch kept breaking was probably due to boost spikes from the twin scroll turbo constantly stressing it at lower rpm. This clutch has slight rattle/chatter but oh well. Also if you didn't measure the act clutch installed height you may have needed a throwout bearing spacer and that's why your dragging in Between gears because the t.o.b. is fully extended and just barely disengaging the clutch.

I agree with this man.

Same thing I said but more detail
