Computer Controlled Starting?

Did a search and to many uses of the word start or starting/starter so sorry in advance if this has already been asked, someone send me the link if it has.

I went to start my car the other day and as soon as i turned the key my fingers slipped off. However the car still cranked over and started up just perfect while the key was in the run/home position. Ever since i have just been flicking the key to start it once i get in, nothing impressive but kinda cool.

All my previous vehicles the ignition has always been a direct link to the starter i.e. i turned the key electricity went to starter and cranked motor, I let off and it stopped.

Im making and educated guess and saying that this has to do with the Passlock III system and the starting is actually done by the computer once the key is verified or told to crank for a certain length of time by the computer once the key is verified.

However i don't know this for fact and hope someone is a little more knowledgable on the subject.

Has anyone else noticed this?

yes it automatically cranks for a 15 second increment at a single turn of the key.

your owners manual explains this. enjoy your high tech ignition

you're pretty much right. notice how many gm cars have remote start?

basically. it is prevent damage to the starter by taking it all out of your hands.

its pretty cool, I dunno why. but it is. I notice with my VW, half the time I don't get it started the first try cause I let go too soon.

Yah funny thing is i knew they had computer control over the starter i was reading into it when they came out with the Colorados a few years ago cuz they made a big deal about not being able to enable the starter once the vehicle is running.

Just not used to having the feature i guess.

I love this feature. I get into rental cars now and just tap the key and get all pissed off when the starter doesnt keep cranking!

A couple of times the starter didn't keep cranking on my Cobalt, but they seem to just be sporatic glitchs.

It's a cool feature. I have grown too acustom to it I think because now when I get in a car without it I just turn the key and start to buckle up and the car doesn't start. It always confuses me for a second. lol

It wouldn't be hard to do. There are probably a few on here that have done it.

Not only that. But if the car is already running and you turn the key,no grinding
It dosn`t kick the starter pin out to start the car if it is already running. I found out the hard way.(or is that the lucky way?)
