You said the officer didn't cite you or anything, meaning the accident wasn't reported, right? I'd park it out of sight for now, add full coverage, and trailer it out during the next blizzard. Just sayin

He said he has comprehensive but not collision. If weather caused the damage then maybe there's a chance.

No. He was in a collision.
The officer did him a big favor not citing him because technically he should have.
It would not be smart for the OP to pursue that, he will end up with a ticket and accident on his record that will up his insurance even more.

Yeah im definetly happy about having a cool officer who didnt report it and yes it is parked in my garage right now. I dont think i'm going to even get insurance involved with trying to get something out of it because it could bite me in the ass later. I feel like i got off pretty easy because technically, if the cop wanted to be an ******* he could have written me up for failure to control, and made up a police report which would notify my insurance. That part i got lucky on.

Exactly. Nice to see some one sucking it up and being grateful for a break they caught.

Sorry about the car though

I agree that he was in a collision. I'm not an expert on insurance. But he has comprehensive insurance.

Comprehensive is for things such as theft, animal damage, hail, acts of god, fire, riot, etc.

Collision is when you hit something.

The only grey area is an animal in the road. If you hit a dead deer in the road, you collided with an object. If a deer runs out into your car, it is comprehensive.

Yeah it seems like parting it out is getting some attention so hopefully i can get some money from that and put some money towards a TC. I'm calling some credit unions today to see what kind of rates they could offer me.

This collision the OP had again shows that all season tires are useless in the snow and during icy conditions

There wasnt any snow, or else i wouldnt have been going normal speed. Roads were perfectly clear everywhere except where this little patch of black ice was. But yes they are useless on ice haha.

It could, depending on his states no fault laws. Black ice collisions are no fault in my state and damage is covered by comp if you don't have collision.

He lives in Ohio. So did I. In Ohio it is a at fault state and things you hit are your fault. Collision.

You don't want to be playing games with the insurance company as they have lawyers that specialize in finding out people making false claims

This sucks man..... I agree with those who said to try and find a reliable beater for now... save up money once you start making some, and use that plus your part out and scrap as a down payment on something next year.

Get ahead financially, then start shopping.

I know your anxious to get back into something fun, and it sucks you were teased with only 8 months of playtime with the balt.

But you could have a surprising amount of fun with an older 5speed civic or something in the mean time.

I'd also invest in some winter tires. I'm not sure about where you are, or the company you're with, but up here in Canada you get a discount on insurance if you have winter tires.

77 south 224 west ramp. Hit the ice slowing down in the exit lane and spun out onto the ramp.
