Dead Battery Question
Ok..I picked up my 09 SS about 6 weeks ago. It had around 8600 mi and had a NEW battery installed at 7300 Mi, but that was back in Jan of this year. I suspect that the car wasn't driven much, since the build date was 9/22/08, and that was the reason for the replacement. After this new battery was installed, it basically sat for another 5 months! In fact, the *Car Facts* report shows it had 8400 Mi as of Feb 1, so it basically wasn't driven at ALL when I bought it with 8600 Mi in mid June. Because of this, I had some concerns about the *new* battery....
BINGO...it just died on me today! I had it tested and one cell was DEAD.
Well, I put in a Deka battery (AAA Club) this time. Am I right to assume that this car went through TWO batteries because it basically sat for 1 1/2 yrs? The tech said the charging system was fine. The only other thing I can think of is a BCM *problem* causing a hidden drain?

"Dead cell" Suggests the total battery's voltage will read 10.4 V or less.
The battery plates may have sulfated from sitting for so long. So yeah, two batteries because the car just sat there isn't unheard of. I doubt there're any underlying problems with the ECM and the BCM has nothing to do with the charging system.
You'll be fine.

Thanks..
the AAA tech had diagnostic equipment and said reading came up dead cell.
BTW. I've heard that faulty BCM can cause a drain. Don't think that's the problem though.
Once a battery discharges to a certain level (sulfated) it never recovers. The dealer may have *charged the car*, but probably not sufficiently. Boy, I bet this happens quite a bit..with cars sitting on dealer lots and such.

It was an arizona car, we eat batteries here if they arent regularly cycled. My truck sat in the garage for 7 months starting it occasionally and i just replaced the battery, the battery was only a year old. It was replaced before for the same reason. Batteries in AZ = Big money

Boy...you must have really done some *searching* here to dig that up..
yes, Arizona climate very well may have been a factor. It didn't arrive in Monterey Ca (where I bought it) until April 30 and then sat another 6 weeks!
