This was a base model with $3900 CAD worth of options on it.
I must say that I am a bit sad that the car hasn't lived to my expectations. Sadly Some of the plastics feel really cheap, and the steering wheel might be awsome in leather, but it is horibble in its plastic reincarnation. For the base model they should have used the 2003 plastic wheel from the Cavalier.
I guess I expected it to be better than the Chevrolet Optra (Suzuki Forenza for American Readers), and interior wise it wasn't. The optra is way more refined, and the top of the dash is rubbery, while the Cobalt is hard grainy plastic. Being 6.3" I must say that the 4 door felt ackward, in the space department especially for the elbow on the door side (I drive a z24 cavalier coupe 2003 right now).
The Optra has more back space (my brother owns one, so I this is my opinion) , then again, it doesn't have the ecotec engine which I really appreciate in my Cavalier. Overall the inside lacked the refined touch you get in the Optra. To get a better opinion about the space inside, I would need to seat in a coupe version of the cobalt. The interior probably looks much better in black.
I haven't test drove it, so no word on the driving dynamics, except for the dealer told me they were very pleased by it.
What chevy needed in the US and Canada is an Optra withan Ecotec engine in it. That would be quite a contender.
Thank you, hope to write again on this website

Nice pics
I drove one a few weeks ago. But I agree, the coupes are probably going to be more impressive
