Dimming a Gauge

Well finally got my interceptor, decided to put it and my EGT in.

Anyway, loving the interceptor and I like the EGT too. But the EGT is so bright it's obnoxious. It doesn't have a dim feature and the only way to dim it is to buy a $30 kit from Autometer. Besides the fact I dont want the clunky thing for one guage, I refuse to spend money on something that should have been included in an already pricey gauge.

So wondering if anyone has an idea on how to dim this gauge down? It's a nice gauge and I actually like it, just sucks between living in the country and working third shift.

It's an Autometer Digital EGT Gauge.

Not too sure about it, but couldn't you hook up an electrical dimmer switch to it?
