Question Does how much air you have in your tires vary by how much the car is weighed down?

If you consistently have 2 or 3 people, should you/I air up the tires a few pounds?
/dumb question

Absolutely, the more the better, about an extra 15 psi per person should do it.

WOW... really? What a bunch of *****. For real though usually the manufacturer of the tires can provide a chart of pressures based on weight of the car and load carried.

No it's fine, the tires hold the exact same volume of air just it's weighted more slightly compressing the tire in turn slightly raising the PSI from what it is unloaded. It's not worth adjusting the PSI though unless you want slightly better MPG for a long trip.

It wasn't the question that was asked, it was who asked it.

Ive always wondered this actually. If you out air in the tires when the car is up in the air doe the psi go up once you drop the car lol

Id say put a psi or two in the back to account for the subs or a psi or two on the drivers side for your fat ass whichever it is

No, it does not change. You can load or unload the car, the psi will not change. What will change is the contact patch of the tire touching the ground. PSI, after all, is pound-force per square inch, therefore when there is more weight on the tire, more square inches will be needed to even out the force of the car. Of course, if the tire gets so low or the weight so high that it starts collapsing in on itself, the pressure might artificially go up.

The reason for airing up the tires when under a large load is to decrease/negate the added contact patch the load is causing. This will yield in a better ride quality as well as better fuel mileage.
