I change it at 10%, anything less or "old school" and you are just wasting money...this car was designed for farther in between changes, even with it's high performance nature...

Sorry, I don't buy the whole 'oil life monitor' thing, never have. My mom's '99 Z34 has it and has had its oil changed every 3K anyway; so has/will the Cobalt. Better safe than sorry IMO. I think it would be a good idea to compare 2 engines- one which has had its oil changed every 3K, and one that has gone by the monitor. Test them at 50K or so and see which looks/performs better.

Do you really think that GM would put that on their vehicles if it was not accurate? They are smarter than that, they don't want to get sued!

I'm not saying it's 'inaccurate' enough to kill your engine. But you have to agree that your engine is better-protected having its oil changed every 3K than whenever their silly little computer says so.

As I said somewhere else, your oil may very well be OK for as long as the OLM claims it is. But what about your filter? That's something a lot of people over-look.

I also think synthetic oil is a huge waste of money in a 2.2- we don't have a high-RPM supercharger to protect. IMO, regular oil changed at regular intervals is more than enough protection.

These are just my opinions, however. To each his/her own.

That "3,000 mile" oil change is a farce. It is put out there by oil manufacturers, dealerships, and repair facilities just to bring people in sooner for oil changes and upsell whatever else they can. It was kinda ballsy of GM to put the monitor on more vehicles like ours because it tends to **** off oil manufacturers, dealerships, and repair facilities. If the monitor was not accurate for the oil it was calibrated for, GM would not put it on their cars for fear of many lawsuits about how people's engines blew or ceased because the monitor did not tell them to change the oil in time.

I used Pennzoil in my Beretta for over 300,000 miles and the engine was spotless inside - no gum, varnish, sludge, etc. I have pics to prove it.
I don't doubt it. To me, oil is oil. And as long as it gets the job done right, I'm happy. Although I still don'tr trust Quaker State to this day, but that's just me.
Needless to say I don't go there anymore, and Pennzoil is in my sump at this very moment. So take that, Jiffy Lube guy.
