E-Brake won't stay attached

I changed out my bent rear axle beam today. After bleeding the brakes, I got in to back out of the garage, let out the E-Brake as normal and backed out. Then when I re-engaged it, nothing, just a limp handle. Popped the trim off and found the two cables running back to the rear of the car had come off. I struggled to get them back and and as soon as I let it out again, they came off. Do I need to tighten the handle cable or replace the silver bracket?

You need to adjust the rear caliper. First check and make sure the spring is attached so that is pulls the cable back after you let off the ebrake handle. Your cable could be sticking if adjusting the caliper doesn't work.

Thanks. I adjusted the tension on the handle and it seems to be OK for now. I think I might have been yanking on it too hard to engage it and either stretched out the bracket or the cables. There wasn't enough tension on it to keep them connected. I also read where there are supposed to be rubber bumpers that keep them from popping out, which aren't there. My old Cavi had a pretty loose E-Brake.
