exhaust references

ok so I am looking for a cat-back exhaust in the near future for my ss/sc but i don't really want anything that will overpower the supercharger sound. sound clips do not really show exactly how different exhausts sound in real life. can someone please guide me in the right direction? I would prefer to not have to spend very much because I am a student and I just bought an injen cai and stage 2. What do yall think about the megan, dc sports, and pacesetter. Also would a custom exhaust be a good route?

Thanks

Custom can be good.....if the guy is skilled at bending pipes (and has mandrel bending tools). Otherwise, I have a Magnaflow stainless steel catback and the build quality is top notch. Perfect fit, and it's not too loud (it has a free flow resonator and muffler). I'd recommend Magnaflow for sure.

Go with a header/downpipe combo...that is where the most restriction is in the exhaust anyways. I got the ZZP header/Downpipe combo and it sounds good with the stock catback.

GMPP Sport.... exactly what you want. At RPMs up to 4000 you hear the exhaust sounding very nice and clearly and after that you hear the supercharger/cold air intake screaming in competition..

I have a good video of this I'll post when I get home from work..I have a stage 2 and k&N cai and gmpp catback

wouldn't there still be a big restriction because the extra flow it frees up would still be going through the stock cat-back?

Well I have a base model and the CAI Mod and I can hear my mod over my exhaust easily without it sounding stock, here is a vid of my Tsudo cat back with the ss/sc header (best with subs or a good set of components, from the back so you cant hear the CAI Mod.):

And here is a really old vid of the same cat back with a stock 2.2 header:
If you have a good sounding system hooked up to your computer you should be able to tell that the first vid is much deeper at idle all the way up through 4k. There is little drone on the highway(just drove 4 hours yesterday, trust me on that, I kept the music off so I could hear the exhaust).

Its kinda hard to explain what sounds good. What sounds good to some people might sound like crap to you, vise-versa.

SLP, and GMPP have a nice sound to it. Vibrant isn't too bad either.

Or like they said, go custom

I have the GMPP Touring.

Mmmmmmmmmmmm.

So deep, and when you get on it opens up quite nicely.

I have a CA V1 header and a 2.5" catted DP as well.

At first it was hella quiet, not much louder than stock...I have had it for close to two years now...and it sounds awesome.

if i decide to go with a custom exhaust what size tubing would everyone recomend? Also what would the differences be if i went with 3" tubing as opposed to 2.5" tubing?

Go with 2.5 unless you plan on putting in some extremely high boost numbers...

Unless you plan on swapping a turbo in then dont go over 2.5, the SC can only handle so much and from what I understand torque dies with bigger exhausts.

I just bought this SS that has a Megan at back on it. It is too loud for me and I'll probably take it off and install a Magnaflow at cat back. I'll make someone a good deal on it. Bob

!!

Stick w Stock piping 2.5in. otherwise to big of a whole will cause a lot of back pressure and will lose whp and torque!
