Fresh noob here
Hi everyone. I'm new here (signed up like an hour ago lol) and I love cobalts just like all of you; except the problem is, I don't have one lol. I'm 16 and I just got my license, and have about 6 grand saved up from working since I was about 13. I'm posting here to see if you guys have any suggestions for buying a used cobalt, like what years are the best and what not. Of course I want to mod the car, but I know that'll have to wait until I have enough money, plus insurance would be crazy. So, please someone help me out?!?! Thanks

Yeah I've done research. I'd much prefer the coupe body style, looks better than the sedan. It's just the question I have is is it worth buying a base model and putting a supercharger on it or just buying the SS/SC?

Plus with the SS/SC you get the benefit of the nice leather interior, manual trans, the FE5 suspension, nicer 18" wheels, Lip kit, Pioneer premium sound system, and so on

If the insurance pricing is a issue for you I would seriously consider getting a base model and adding a turbo or supercharger to it. Insurance for a 16 year old on an SS cobalt is probably quite pricey.

When i talked to a few different dealer ships when i was looking at my ss sc. Im 23 by the way they said most guys my age or a little younger couldn't get the car due to high insurance. ball park numbers most kids pay any where from 300-600 a month. You might be able to get a lower payment if ur covered under ur parents insurance, then again ur a new driver so it might not matter. i believe every state is different when it comes to that.

I bought my SS/NA bc I live in michigan and there wasnt any SS/tc or sc for sale. and looking at tc kit from zzp is about 3,300 without there install and tune thats 1k more. so I would get maybe a cheap jdm? gtp around that price just a starter car that either has some mods already or that are cheap to get and install.

What kind of insurance are you guys getting where you pay "$300-$600 per month"? I bought my ss/sc new when I was 19 and was only paying $180/mth and that's living in NJ where insurance is stupid expensive.
OP, don't get a LT, you'll hate it. By time you spend the time/money to swap everything to supercharged or turbo, add the body kit, add the better seats, add the Pioneer sound system, add the wheels, etc, etc, etc. You'll have spent more on a base LT Cobalt than you would have for a SS/SC. SS/SC's aren't expensive at all anymore, you can pick one up pretty cheap and $6k is a healthy down payment If you're spending any more than $200/mth on one with $6k down, I'd be really surprised.
