Friend just bought a 05 cobalt SS i have a few ?????
so yea he got a 05 cobalt SS with a injen intake and i guess they welded a flow master Axle back on it. i drove it for a short period of time and it hit a little over 10psi in 1st i'd say about 12 not 100% sure. it has 16,000 miles about. i talked the guy down from 18,999 to 16,999 since the rim was curbed and the hood had a few rock chip's and a few other minor flaw's. i just wanted to drop in and see what you guy's think about the deal ill have pictures posted up soon of mine and his car and my 97 Z28. and i was going to tell him to get the stage 2 kit for the S/C what tuning software should he buy? or can it be done open source? Pm's or even reply's will be a great help. and if anyone's in the NY upstate area maybe we can all cruz thanks take care!

If your friend is going to tune with HPT then there is no real reason to get the stage 2 from GM. Get the injectors, belt and a smaller pulley and just tune it. There are a few guys who do the tuning stuff in NY and I am sure they will chime in.

Stock boost is 12psi after break in at a decent elevation. I could only see getting 8 psi if you live in really high elevation. I have stage 2 and I see about 15psi.

also what do these things usually put down to the wheel's before stuff starts to brake like axles and tranny's or anything in the drivetrain thanks ttyl

also one more thing whats the cheapest why to get to stage 2? buy used stuff? i would have the injectors cleaned if so. the gm stage 2 kit is like 649 witch is kinda expensive for a chevy dont u think. i can get discount's from GM since im a dealer. but what im really asking stage 2 and a tune how much is he looking to spend? and is the tuning open source or does he need to buy like a reflash programmer like for my sti i have a Cobb Access port

Tell your friend congrats on the new ride and to join up here! There are alot of really smart guys that can lend him some usefull information! I think all your questions haven been answered so I wont repete anyone!
Mike
The stage 2 kit is 550 from crateenginedepot.com then you have to pay for install also. Shouldnt cost more than 250$. Stage 2 does come with a new pcm program so tuning willl be covered. Stage 2 includes a code that you give to the dealer that is installing it. They then call GM and get a code to put into their tuner and it reprograms the PCM

he doesnt have a computer lol so im doing the searches for him he doesnt want to have to much hp where it brakes axles and all so far i found out pretty much all i need to know except
the GM program i'm sure it's a very safe map correct? and a pro tuner could possibly get more power? i guess 250whp is the limit to where this car can handle well keep it very reliable that is whats the limit? 280? 300? i'm sure a good responsible driver can run 300whp with no issues.
So how do i get the PCM programmed if we are installing the part's are self? or does GM need to do this? I'm going to check the car out more tomorrow and measure the pulley for all i know it could be stage 2 i felt like more then 200whp it felt faster then my LT1 Z28 comaro.
just a few picture of my project soon to be done on July 28th

Very cool pics man!
The S2 tune does need to be done by a GM dealer. Also installing the S2 parts yourself will only give you a 12 month parts warrenty, no labor. If you have GM install the parts he will retain his 100,000 mile warrenty!
