Not bringing my car in for the recall. If I die, then GM killed me when they sold me the car. Ive driven the car for 5 years without any issue. Im not bringing the car in because they want to replace my ignition. Maybe in the near future when thing settle down I will bring it in when I can sit there and wait to pick it up within the what? 1 hour it will take to install an ignition?>

ummm.

When my SS was at the dealership for the power steering motor replacement, I got my car back with a wash and wax.....
When I looked in the wheel well, it was full of rubber, somebody had been doing burnouts on my new Nitto tires.
So the OP has reason to be concerned.

If you want extra piece of mind, do some tests to the ignition switch yourself.

Start the car while parked. Tug on the key ring in all directions and see if it snaps back to the off postion.

They started replacing the switch sometime back in 07' and never changed the part number. Most 07' and newer cars should be ok.

I've tried everything to get the car to shut off, but failed (which is a good thing, lol).

I was going to get it replaced just to have it done, but I think I might hold off a bit.

yea I did the test when they first said 05-07 cobalts. I was able to shut the car down while in motion with a gentle tug of the fob. I retried the test not too long ago and failed to shut the car off. Im not playing on having any accidents so the risk of my life will be a great way to help me be a more defensive driver lol.

I've realized whenever the dealership gives you something nice, its because they messed something up.
For example, I went to have the downpipe/cat replaced shortly after I bought the car, they did it free of charge. but they left a nice scratch on my bumper and hood then proceeded to deny everything and said it was like that when I brought the car in. what a fiasco.

My car passes the "pull" test as an '08, but I do struggle constantly with getting the key from OFF -> Acc/Run/Start. I'm bringing mine in for that alone and hope between the ignition and lock cylinder swap it'll be usable again. If the recall wasn't going on, I'd pull the cylinder myself and figure it out. I'm assuming it just hangs in the cylinder well like older Mustang's do and some filing fixes it.

If some random technician wants to beat on my now almost 6 year old Cobalt, **** it.... its stock tune wise anyway so it'll be a yawner. I live in the Austin area and owning a modified car is almost pointless since you're in bumper-to-bumper traffic at ALL times these days.

If any of you have the ability to tune, just throw a tune in with the DAL's dumped. Inform the service manager the cars been crippled so they do not attempt a reflash, put it in writing if you must.

There are some nice back roads in the Kyle area....
But where else are some nice drivimg roads? I recently moved from San Antonio and I'll have my car back from the shop with a new clutch tomorrow.

Yea I'm positive mine (08 lnf) has the factory ignition so I'm not too worried about it either.

I live up north in Cedar Park, but work in Austin... off 360/Bee Cave. So don't make it down that way too much. The problem for me traffic wise is: there are just only so many ways to get over the river.

When its quiet out, I like to drive bac kroads to work like Spicewood Springs, up past the Oasis .. etc. 1431 to Marble Falls is a lot of fun too. Be careful on Spicewood though because there are gullys where you can bottom out and also often bicyclists.

I'm also somewhat new to the area myself.

They did it to my TC. I had it in for a new sunroof under warranty they did not even need to drive the car more than across the lot and they drove it a total of 21 miles (I reset the trip meter then put it back to the odometer. I had just washed it and the bumper and tailpipe were crystal clean when I got it back they were black with soot so I know they were ragging on my car. I was pissed. I chewed out the service manager for that one and I gave them explicit instructions to not drive my car ever except to and from the bay. Next time I brought it in I had the rev limiter at 3000 RPMs, dropped the wg dc down so it boosted 6 psi max and the speed limiter set at 60 and I pulled out some timing as well for good measure.

now I'm going to have to add recall tune to the vinyls I cut for T2 tuned

I'm going to try to schedule the recall work for a Saturday so I can babysit. Not really what I want to do, but if it will save abuse.

Ouch.

I plan to disconnect both MAF sensors, I don't have HPT so that's not an option. Maybe disconnect the BPV. What else would throw it into limp mode?

i actually had my car shut off while driving.

i was going down a 2 lane road when it happened. i had my music loud so i couldnt hear my car, but after i hit the gaping hole in the earth, my steering was really heavy and when i went to give it gas nothing happened. so i looked down and sure enough the car had shut off.

i took my scale out and measured the force required to shut the car off and its 2 lbs.
