GMPP Performance Air Intake Kit 17800653
I just installed the GMPP Cold Air Intake Kit PN 17800653 on my V-Red 06 Cobalt LS 2.2(List $455.00, Net $327.60 Pictured on the Chevy site under Cobalt Accessories). It uses the original air filter base and seals to the hood to keep out engine compartment heat. I can't really tell a performance gain (seat of the pants) but if noise makes you faster, between the Air Intake and the GMPP performance Cat-Back Exhaust anyone within a half mile knows I'm WOT!

The extra $40-$60 cost over the Injen, AEM, and K&N kits was worth it to me because the dealer will still honor my warranty -- I checked before purchasing. As far as performance it has been a long time since I have floored a car and got wheel spin like a 60's musclecar. I actually expected to floor it and have to wait for the engine to rev up but this thing accelerates hard right off-the-line!

once i get my cobalt i might have to get it. would take me a while to save up that much though. exhaust i'll just make a custom one but intake if done wrong could void warranty so yeah it might be worth it for the gm one.

Isnt it the only way to void the warranty (technically) is if the aftermarket item is the cause of the warranty concern?
Eh, either way I'm glad I didnt wait on this and ordered my INJEN.

I installed it in less than an hour -- took my time to do it right. You have to remove the engine cover to install the kit. I considered leaving it off but the oil fill cap and valve cover are not presentable yet, so I put the engine cover back on.
The installation instructions are adequate, they forgot to mention the plastic fastener on the driver side of the original induction tube -- no big deal but nice to know before you attempt to lift it off.

I would be lying if I told you I can tell it has more power. The car has just over 1000 miles on it and I didn't floor it until after I installed the GMPP performance exhaust. I'm just happy with it's performance now. It gets up and goes. I'm basing this on experience with my children and their 4 cylinder cars as well as rental cars I've driven. When I drove my Teenager's cars the acceleration was dismal (Kias and Fords). With my Cobalt part throttle out-accelerates their cars. I haven't timed my Cobalt on a track or had it on a dyno -- and I don't intend to. Audibly the car sounds like it has more power -- at WOT, after the initial wheelspin, you don't hear anything but intake and exhaust. Everyone around you does too....
