Headlight bulb change.

Hey guys just running a quick question by you as far as headlights go.

As most of you know the stock head lights for the cobalt are 65/55. There is a good deal that i have been offered to get 100/80w halogen bulbs. As far as i know those will deform the harness i believe but i am not sure, either way i have heard its risky move to put those bulbs in on the stock setup. SO my question is is there a way to beef up the system so that it could with stand the bulbs. upgraded harness maybe? Im not sure, I'm lost as far as electrical stuff goes so I figured i would ask!

Thanks guys!

Deform? You mean melt?

Stick with what works. Insurance probably won't be too kind after you burn your car down.

yes there is a way, you can run relays. however the extra heat given off by a 100/80w bulb could melt the headlight housings.

So if 100/80w will melt everything an suggestions on what a good bluish/white colored bulb would be without going Hid or having to do anything to modify the headlight?

Expensive bulbs. They usually only last me a year though.

They won't be much brighter anyway. You'll basically be getting a diminishing return. As the light down the road increases, so will the foreground light. The extra foreground light will make it harder for you to see the extra light down the road. Some of those high wattage bulbs aren't aligned properly either, so the beam pattern may be off. I actually do have a box of 9007 high wattage bulbs. The stock 55/65 watt Philips bulbs actually work better. Also, don't listen to any bad advice about putting HIDs in your stock headlights either. Just do a retrofit with HID projectors and call it a day. You won't regret it.

LED head lights have come pretty far. I'm considering getting a pair.

They have not come nearly far enough. Seriously pnp led is still worse than halogen when you consider the glare and lack of distance especially in reflectors
