Headlight Seal

For those of you that have done retros or taken apart your headlights, what did you use to put a new seal on? Did you use the OEM stuff that's still on the housing? I was planning on using a new sealant, but I didn't know if I should just go to Home Cheapo and buy a caulk or something like that. Too many to choose from. Thanks in advanced.

I just used the stock silicone that was in there, it's the best stuff you can have for this, you change it juste if you are really not able to reseal them properly.

Well one had the common condensation so I didn't know if I was going to have to replace it with a new sealer.. That was my concern with reusing the seal but I'll find out I guess lol

Yep just try it, the sealant would be good, but if it's not, just buy new sealant and redo it :P

What sealant would you buy to replace the OEM if the OEM didn't work

You could always try this:

OCI Butyl Rubber Glue - Accessories from The Retrofit Source

I used a black windshield sealant. Works great and comes off easier if you need back in. Still seals great though.

That stuff keeps water out of my car, I don't see why it wouldn't work! Nice thinking!

Like YelloEye said, windshield sealant is good, otherwise the sealant from TRS is a good product too. Your choice :P

I'm having this same problem. How did you get rid of the moisture? I'm gonna try baking the headlight to get it open and drying it out as best as I can.

Agreed. Good silicone well the kind I use for roofing is 11.00, and well it is messy and gross looking if it squashes out.

That **** is for concrete, I used it to seal cracks in the go-kart track I worked at during the summers of college

That crap has been around as long as the dinosaurs. You want a permeant fix for a chimney or wall, roofing cement. This crap we have now sucks. The old wet dry stuff I have literally seen a fully standing water flat roof. Apply under water and it seal. This new stuff sucks. God I am old

You can see what I did in the above link...

As others have stated above, I would scrape out as much of the old OEM sealant as you can. Once you're done doing that, apply OCI Butyl Rubber Glue from The Retrofit Source
