Help! I have the wrong suspension!
Hello,
I have the wrong front suspension installed in my car. I think these are Fe1 struts with soft suspension.
However, Fe5 struts are nowhere to be found, they aren't sold anywhere... Can anyone recommend some cheap but also good struts + springs that I can use? I just want stock ride height and stock feel, nothing more.
I found this online https://www.shocksurplus.com/product...let-cobalt-fwd, anyone has experience with KYB Excel G struts+shocks? How close are these to stock?
Thank you so much

We talked on facebook. You 100% have the FE1 struts on there. the KYB ones are decent but comparable to FE3. I can't believe that a shop would send your car back to you like that.
But as we mentioned on Facebook, the LNF FE5 OEM parts are discontinued. I would honestly say at the point your at coilovers are the easiest solution. also there are constantly part outs, you could probably find used FE5 struts, but there really is no guarantee that those struts will last.

That's just the upper strut mount, that could have been replaced, very cheap. If the rest of the strut was fine, that would have been an easy route to go.
With FE5 being hard to come buy since it's discontinued, you are not going to find a cheap easy replacement. That is the same as your stock suspension. Quite simply no one made an aftermarket OE spec strut that was comparable to the FE5 system. I don't know how much you want to put in to your car, but if you plan to keep it it might be worth the money to upgrade. There are numerus coil over options, and then there is also the Koni Yellow cut a strut replacements. ZZP offers the kit for the entire car, but you have to build them your self. Their kit is $730 but then you still need to buy springs, and most use YYZ springs with that kit. https://zzperformance.com/products/k...ts?zCountry=US
Your other option, you could just replace the rear shock and spring with FE1 parts. It's a downgrade, but at least it will sit level, well maybe.

I'm thinking KYB struts and rear shocks with YYZ springs at the moment. Probably will be a decent enough combo. I honestly do not plan to keep the car for long really... just sort of want it in a sellable condition...

I realize that sometimes finding good information is tough;
I have been on a quest to find OEM parts in the absence of GM-discontinued parts.
Some parts, like Brembo components, are easy to source, others, like struts are not so much...
Your friend, if looking on Rockauto, it to look at interchange;
Often if it says something like "2005-2010 Cobalt" - then it's not the right part for you.
HERE is a link to a thread I recently made.
