Wow man, absolutely horrible :-( I hope everything turns out alright!

If your engine is pushed back and tilted, for your sake I hope they total is out and you can get a brand new one - maybe even an upgrade to an ss/sc ? ;-)

they give you what the car was worth just before it was totalled...when my moms car was totalled they gave us back more then what we paid for it....good deal except it cost us my moms life...stupid oldsmobile not exactly the safest car i guess

i bought extra insurence so if my car gets totalled i get what i paid for it including the loan...and if it gets stolen and its unfixable(is that even a word) i get a brand new car of the current year...

lol you mean he has a 2.2L with a rom car.... whoever told you that trying to cram another car in the engine bay would give you 30 more hp and another 20lb of torque was full of ****!!

If the engine is pushed back there maybe more damage then meets the eye then. Motor mounts like someone said is certainly possible. But then again motor mounts are not the end of the world.

**WARNING**....the following statements are my thoughts only...no research has been done to confirm any of this...proceed at your own risk:

If I understand it correctly, they will give you Kelly Blue Book value for the car. If you purchased additional GAP insurance from the Dealership then they will cover the "gap" between Kelly Blue Book value and what you actually owe. As for $$ you already paid (into November), that will probably come into the formula at the "what you still owe" section.

It will all depend on what you owe v/s what the car is currently worth. I do not think they will give you any money for any mods you had on the car (unless you just happened to have them insured).

You may get money back from this, but dont be suprised if you end up coming out of this deal at even or maybe in the hole (w/o GAP insurance).

**EDIT**
Oh, if you purchased an extended warranty from the Dealership then you can get that money back. Just call your dealership and they will work with the company you purchased the extended warranty through to get you a check.

little update...

its been almost a week and i still dont have a rental car. they told me yesterday i couldnt get one because they were sure where the liability fell? (last time i checked, DUI hitting parked car makes him liabile)

and also apparently they checked the cobalt but no word on the monte carlo. the adjustor said he thinks about 4k$ just looking at the outside, but he cant get under the hood to see anything internal so they gotta tow it somewhere to get it checked out.

WTF isnt that there job to check it out?! if the hood is bent, take it off! aodfhaahdfa

Sounds like they are giving you the run-around. I'd be on the phone to someone's supervisor immediately.

I'd agree. They're DUI and hit not one but TWO of your parked cars??????? Sounds like a no-brainer to me.

Bullshit, even if someone else hits you, you are supposed to have the choice of where the car gets fixed.

Have you talked to your insurance at all? Technically that's how things are supposed to work, you put the call into your insurance, they fix it for you at no cost to you and the other driver's insurance is supposed to reimburse them. When some dumb bitch hit my Cavalier, that's what I had to do, when I called State Farm the lady asked me if I had a preference for where my car was or was not fixed, I told her what body shop I wanted to handle it and that's where they took it.

Sounds like it's time to be an A-hole. Insurance companies are in it for the money not customer service.

well i think my parents told them to take it this dealer...my dad has this notion that a chevy dealer will put the right parts on or something instead of having them take it to one of his millions of friends who do body work that could pad the price.
