right hand side of trans (if underneath and looking forward)
the cables are visible but i didnt see an threaded adjustment
i would wait until the manual comes out or go to chiltondiy.com and see what they have for the cobalts

Set the parking brake. Remove the cup holder. Lift and unlock the shift cable retainers.
Push the shifter 4th gear lock clip. Move the shifter slightly in order to center the lock clip.
Ensure that the transmission is in 4th gear.
Press and lock the shift cable retainers.
Pull the shifter 4th gear lock clip to its original position.
Install the cup holder--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yes, I kept missing third because my side to side cable wasn't allowing my shifter to self center.
There is still play in the shifter but I haven't ever driven a manual without some play. On this particular car I think it seems as if there is more play due to the fact that the shifter springs are light.
