Information on Newly Released Recall
Hello all,
As it pertains to this community, I had wanted to let you know what I know about the newly released recall. At this point, all I have is a media release to go off of that states the following:
"General Motors is recalling 40,859 vehicles from the 2007-2009 model years
originally sold in some hot weather states because the plastic supply or return port on the fuel pump module could crack, causing a fuel leak."
The vehicles involved include:
"2007 model year Chevrolet Cobalt, Pontiac G5, and Saturn ION vehicles originally sold or
currently registered in Arizona, California, Florida, Nevada, or Texas;
2008 model year Chevrolet Cobalt and Pontiac G5 vehicles originally sold or currently
registered in Arizona; and
2009 model year Chevrolet Cobalt and Pontiac G5 vehicles originally sold or currently
registered in Arkansas, Arizona, California, Nevada, Oklahoma, or Texas."
To my knowledge, I cannot confirm at this time whether or not your vehicle is included in this recall at this time. Thank you for your patience - I will update this thread the moment I have more information.

I dont think this should just be restricted to a "hot weather state"
I can smell gas when I let my car cool down while running in the garage and I always thought it was maybe just running a bit rich, this leads me to think that a fuel leak is the issue. According to this recall though it says I shouldnt be affected.. i beg to differ, it should be just as bad if not worse in 4 season states where cold/hot season fluctuations really stress a material (here in WI, it gets as cold as -30 in winter and 110 in summer)

My 2007 had this issue and I fixed it myself, dealer said my car was not covered...even with me being in Texas. My fuel return line literally cracked so bad it was leaking about a 1/2 gallon per drive.
Bought a new pump/assembly on Amazon and swapped it myself piece of cake.

Known about this for some time...I believe it was in July of last year when I had to change my fuel pump due to a leak. I knew about the recall and called the dealership and Corporate Chevy to be told my VIN didn't fall under the recall (even though my car suffered the same issue)
$350 for part (fuel pump) and roughly two hours of my night to fix it!

This appears to be an expansion of the previous recall that now covers more cars and years.
If GM knows your address info you should get a recall letter. My 2006 got one from that previous recall.
I wanted to add one more thing. I don't have the letter right now with me but it basically says they won't fix anything with your car unless there is an issue. The problem is covered for a longer period of time (think it was 100k or 120k miles). But you needed to have an issue with the part for them to fix it. You could not just go in and have it done.
Most likely same scenario here but don't quote me.

I had this same issue, my car is a 2006 from NJ and my VIN is not covered under the recall. Having the fuel pump replaced cost me around $700. It's outrageous that GM isn't recalling all of the fuel pumps when there is clearly an issue. I called the NHTSA and was told they couldn't do anything about it.

My car is a from Texas and is a 2009 cobalt.
I asked the day it happened if my car has an open recall and it's a no then and a no now.
Any reason my car isn't on the recall even though my car is in Texas and a 2009.
It was nought in Texas also.

I think this was a "Special Policy" that I got a letter about a few years ago. They said only bring your car in if you have the problem. I had the problem so I'm already fixed. But thanks Sarah!
