To keep, or move on..
Hello everyone, I've been a lurker on these forums for a bit since before I purchased my 2007 cobalt ss but have finally decided to join in as I have questions of my own that I'd love to get answers for from this community.
So the main question I have is, should I keep my cobalt and mod it or just sell it as quick as I can. The reason for me asking is that my cobalt is moving on up too 300k km's. The body is already starting to surface rust on the underside, I already had fixed one hole in the driver side rocker but otherwise the only holes from rust are on my rear quarters. The car clearly wasn't taken serious care of before I owned it, I was lucky enough to get a hold of the original owner and he said the car hasn't ever been modded or messed with. The throttle body is currently clogged so badly that my car almost bogs out and doesn't deliver throttle right away when I go from cruising to wot. I know I can take that apart myself and clean it, which I plan to do once I get time. My headers are cracked a little so I need new headers for sure. My brakes and rotors are on their way out but it's not much to get those replaced. I've already got a brand new set of summer and winter tires, although the stock alloys are so curb rashed now they need to be redone. And ultimately what I'm worried about is my motor blowing up, it seems to run perfect and before my oil changes it is usually around 40% oil life which I'd assume is alright for a boosted car.
I'm only planning to keep this car for another year before I move onto either a tc cobalt or an awd platform. But I'm really worried about the car giving out on me before then, it is my dd too.
I'd love to keep my balt and buy a few zzp goodies for it, but when I heard about quite a few people around my area had their balts blow up before 250k. Mind you those ones were owned by people who are particularly hard on there cars ..

The body is only going to get worse in the next year. It's probably not worth much now and you probably won't lose much by keeping it for a year. If it's not making noise or smoking and you maintain it, it should make it another year.

But thank you for the input, I'm hoping honestly if the body goes atleast I'll have a good motor and parts to sell off it ahah.

I hate trying to decide on a car when you have a budget that doesn't seem to fit any of the cars you'd enjoy haha.

^ what he said. Save for mods for the Lnf or to put more money down on your next car. Just drive the lsj and leave it alone. You won't get your money back for modded parts in a year.

I agree with this guy. If I was in your shoes I would just spend as little money as possible on maintenance and horde as much cash as you can to buy the car that you want and mode it the way you want.

I mean if you're always making sure you undercoat/clearcoat for the winters and don't torment the car in the winter it won't rust that bad at all. But 90% of people here either don't bother with any of that (as the previous owners of my cobalt did) or they will put away their cars for the winter months.
Yeah regardless I'll be able to get what I want after this year of travelling and such, I was just hoping to have something for now that I could mess around with and put a few goodies on but after all these responses and other threads I've read I'm just going to try and get rid of the cobalt asap for what money I can get out of it.

Just need something for travelling and space until the end of this year, so mainly my options here are a dodge charger or maybe an rsx type s if my buddy still has his for sale for cheap (cars here are usually overpriced so I don't have many choices, and I don't plan to go back to a civic with no options and maybe 100hp.
And then once I finish this year up, I will be able to get anything I want within a realistic price range. And so far I'm leaning towards getting a nice lnf.
