LSJ Clutch Upgrade

Has anyone here have any experience with the LSJ Clutch Upgrade kit (19212712) I think its offered from GM but you can get it through JEGs and other vendors. It says its rated for up to 300hp I want to upgrade my clutch and would like to try this but I don't know if it will hold up.

I have it. It's a good clutch all in all. What are your mods? What's your current hp?

Ok well here is the deal. I am doing an LSJ supercharger swap to my 2006 HHR with the 2.4. Also I am swapping my transmission for the F35 MU3 out of a 2006 cobalt SS. I'm thinking my horsepower is going to be anywhere between 260-270 hp just an educated guess from what I have read. I just want a clutch that has driveability but that won't slip under load.

I'm just wondering what the longevity of the clutch would be and I want to make sure it will hold up to the power, incase I encroach on the 300hp mark. How much power are you making on your application Squints?

Oh ok gotchya, I just want to make sure that it will be a strong enough clutch if I do decide to up the power to around 300 horsepower. I see that KY clutches have a stage 1 clutch set that is rated at 300 torque. I wonder why they rate theirs with torque and the other rates with horsepower. I would Imagine the KY might be a stronger clutch because if its rated for 300 ft/lbs. torque it should be good for 350 horsepower.

I've run the clutch on a 350whp TVS set up and now on a 430whp turbo set up with many passes down the track. Holds up like a champ. Very under rated clutch. Best bang for the buck.

Are you talking about the GM upgrade clutch, or the KY stage 1 set.

Just go gmpp(gm upgrade clutch) I'm sure you won't be disappointed, what seems to be a problem tho is the tob but I think it's mostly install error more than anything

Ok very cool, good to know thanks very much. I don't know how you would install the tob incorrectly though, I thought they were pretty well fool proof.

It's mainly leaking issues which usually results in People coming back and saying they forgot to check the top connection and remove the O ring gasket. Other than that I've never had a problem with my clutch since the install and Tom is an awesome guy to work with. He's a vendor on here with Crate Engine Depot. Customer service is top notch

What O-ring are you talking about? On the elbow connection for the hydraulic hose? I didn't know if there is an O-ring on the slave cylinder, thought it was a total sealed unit.

..

I put 431 WHP on my LNF thru one. Holds just fine. Though I do use 4.45 gears, so it may be easier on the clutch

The clutch is before the transmission so the same torque is going through it. More is being transferred to the wheels due to the higher ratio from the 4.45 gears though.

There's less load on the clutch with the shorter gears though.

I believe it's the elbow that connects on top of the fluid block that feeds the TOB. There is an O ring that goes on there but when you get the kit there is already one on there. The problem most have is they forget to check the inside of the connector. Its common for the plastic o ring to be inside that connector causing a slight leak when you try to connect the connector to the new kit.

Try this, go jump on your mountain bike in bare feet. Assume your feet are the clutch. Take off in 1st gear, feet feel fine. Now go for 24th gear. Hurts don't it Lol. Over simplistic I know, but that may help explain how the better gear ratio, although not as extreme in my example are easier on the clutch.
