I'm making a call to the dealership he works at for the recall on the power steering. I figure I'll take it there for kicks and its close. I'd like to see the look on his face when it shows up in his shop and he sees whats all been done to the car. I'm also wondering if the airbags not deploying in accident #2 may have been a problem with the airbags. Most of the time when I have a passenger in the car the service airbag light comes on. I might be wrong, but to my understanding if the service airbag light was on the airbags would not have deployed.

Kudos to Jackie and SSYellow. Definitely a +1 for humanity. It's stuff like this that makes me proud to sport my css.net decals on my cobalt everywhere I go.

That being said, Zach, definitely a lesson to be learned. ALWAYS research heavily before buying ANYTHING. But as Spawne32 said, if you don't have things like frame, flood, or airbag damage, most likely the car was repaired professionally and is ok. Just be sure to check into your airbag issue. Is this your first car?

When I did my Option B install on my old car I nudged the sensor in the front (right under crash bar) and the light went off. Try un-plugging and plugging it back in. I think I've heard of the lines under the seats getting messed up also.

Yeah, I heard about the wires under the seats getting cut or broken, but I have had both seats out twice now. Once for shampooing the carpets and a second time just to check the sensors and wires. Both times I saw no abrasions or cuts on the wiring. The second time was to check the wiring for the seat sensors again. I disconnected then reconnected each of the sensors on the seats too, but that didn't fix the problem. I just tried unplugging and plugging in the crash bar sensor. Just gotta test it out with a passenger.

If you just bought it recently and you are having problems with the airbags I would take it back to the guy you bought it from to fix for free. It shouldnt have passed passed a certification with airbag problems. He likely certified it himself or had someone he knows do it with the air bag problems. Start talking about reporting an unsafe car that was certified illegally and the mechanic who did it. If he works at a dealership tell him you are going to talk to the manager of the dealership he works at as well. While they usually turn a blind eye to mechanics who fix up cars and resell them on their own they do not like having there reputation screwed with because of their employees.
