I'm doing the opposite with my evo. Building the car stronger before making more power.

Well, its being built as good as it can be now. Girdled block, all forged bottom end, ported head, 82# Valve springs, neutral balance shafts, ati balancer, stage 1 cams with fuel pump lobe...paid for and awaiting arrival...next thing I'll regret is not buying the built trans too, lol.

dude, that blows. i spent $10k on my girlfriend in the 2 years we were together (broke up a month ago). sadly, i didnt have my cobalt until this past october, and most of it was gone by then, but hell, i'd have had it to spend if i hadn't had her, and i'd have all my basic bolt on's done by now, including an upgraded turbo. oh well, we learn from our mistakes

sounds like you've got a good build going. I'm going in the opposite order since the trans is the weaker part of my car. Transfer case first, then built 5 speed swap, then built 2.3L

Yeah, just about all awds have weak transmissions. That is about their only major downfall. My cousin has already went through two transmissions on a new stock clutch in his wrx on the stock tune with just an upgraded bypass valve and turbo back catless exhaust.

I'm running this setup right now, and I'm wondering the same thing. I've got the lightweight flywheel and a strong clutch on top of that, so I'm trying to be as easy as I can be on the tranny and trying not to drop the clutch or shock load the tranny or something.

I have the lightweight flywheeel and stage 4 clutch as well. So its pretty well the same exact setup. I am running the S256ET kit.

Oh wow. Yeah, I'm running the Fidanza and Stage 4. Lucky... you'll enjoy that turbo on this build. I'm trying to hold out for an EFR, but you can feel the engine wanting more, and I'm spinning the fool out of the stock turbo in the meantime I think.

This engine just loves the higher RPM ranges now. Once you get to around 4K RPM it starts to hit its pace, the vibes go away, and it's like a constant smooth flow of power.

I was amazed by how smoothly the power came on the s256et. I never got into it down low but it was definitely a much more smooth and stronger power than the stock turbo could provide. I can't wait to get the engine in it and get the tune dialed in. I shouldn't have any issues hitting 450 on pump gas and a safe tune since I'm catless. If I install my meth kit, 500 is possible, I'm sure.

I thought the EVO's already had a 5 speed... Who's building your trans? Might want to give Tim Zimmer a call. His company is called TMZPerformance and he does good work and great to deal with. PM me if you want his number.

As did mine. It sounded great while it worked but it did not last long, about 4 months. I still have not contacted them about it. Wondering if they will replace it.
