New to Cobalts, what's this one worth?
Hey all, I'm new to the Cobalt SS crowd. I just sold my daily driver truck tonight and I'm going to look at a 2006 SS/SC tomorrow that's about 3 hrs away from me. I've browsed around on craigslist and looked on KBB to see what these cars tend to go for.
The one I'm looking at is at a dealer, it's yellow with yellow/black leather, 60,xxx miles, from what I can it is stock except for powdercoated wheels and what looks to be a powdercoated supercharger.
I asked the dealer if there's ANYTHING they'd like to disclose about the car, the only thing they said that is worth mentioning is they put a new catalytic converter on it after someone traded it in because the old one was shot. They put a factory one on, and now when you get in the throttle it vibrates against the floor. To me that's a non-issue, a couple of hangars welded on and I'm good. Providing that everything else cosmetically and mechanically is what they say it is, i think it's a really good car for the price.
That brings me to my question... with 60,000 miles is this a good deal, average deal, steal, too good to be true, etc? It has a clean title and the carfax is clean. I'd be picking it up for $11,000 even. I've seen similar cars from private parties with 70k-85k miles going for anywhere from $10,500-$12,000.

its hard to tell from those pictures but i can tell you this...the s/c has been off the car, so more then likely it has been modified.
dealerships are required to sell a car with a cat converter. so it probably was running catless. also it looks like that is not the stock exhaust system.
the car should really go for 10k

I'm fine with modified, as long as I'm not buying something that had the engine blown and replaced like some of the ones I've seen "80,000 miles on the body, 20k on the engine"....you'd think they stuck a grenade under the hood or something.
I guess location really plays a part here also, because I checked blue book on the car and retail says $13,500.

I understand what you're saying, and completely agree. I just checked it to use as a base to go off of. My knowledge and expertise is with Fbodies, I don't know crap about the Cobalt market. I figure if KBB says it is worth $2,500 more than I can get it for, I'm either getting a really good deal or something's up with the car, OR like you said KBB isn't the place to be looking.

No offense, but I'm not buying the Cobalt because I want to build it. I've driven one and it was a really fun car to drive, this is a daily driver type of car for me. I know they're not pieces of crap, but they're not something I'd "build".
I may be able to get them to take a little more off, I'll try for $10,500 and see where that gets me. I don't mind the drive, it's not like I had big plans for the weekend, was just going to go to Six Flags anyways haha. If I don't end up buying it, I'll keep looking for something similar. Like I said though, $11k from what I've seen is a little cheaper than what I've personally found for sale on craigslist and local websites.

A guy on a local board I'm on says he recognized BOTH cars. Yellow one has been driven to crap, had a 2.5 pulley on it, was tuned, fully bolted, and meth injected.
The red one was taken care of (says the 3rd party that recognized both cars), and still has 30k miles left on the GM warranty. Looks like I'm going to look at the red one tomorrow instead of the yellow. It's half the distance from me too...

I'm getting the red one. Just got done driving it, still has a year left on the factory warranty, has the original window sticker and invoice for the factory stage 2 upgrade, and was overall a very nice car. I'm picking it up monday.

Congrats on the 5.0! Those are hot. Maybe one day I'll get to run it in my convertible and see how well the ol' turd matches up to the new Mustang.
I cannot wait until tomorrow, and I'm really fortunate that I have an awesome boss who is letting me take a half day tomorrow so I can get the bank business worked out.
