OFFICIAL PRICE BREAKDOWN FOR 2005-2006 CHEVY COBALT SS - Everything you need + more

This the breakdown for a 2005, 2006 Chevy Cobalt SS. You can see what you want, or how good of a deal you got, or how bad of a deal you got.

2006 Cobalt starts at $21,430 and invoice $20,037 (excludes destination charge)

Here are the prices for each individual optiona:
AIR BAGS- FRONTAL AND SIDE HEAD CURTAIN
Air bags, dual-stage, frontal, driver and right front passenger, and side head curtain (ASF) $395.00

DIGITAL AUDIO SYSTEM
Sound system feature, XM Satellite Radio, features 67 channels of 100% commercial-free music included in its over 150 channels of the best in music, news, sports, talk, comedy, XM Instant Traffic and Weather, and more. Digital quality sound with coast-to-coast signal coverage. Three trial months - no obligation. (U2K)
$325.00

ROOF
Sunroof, power, tilt-sliding, includes mirror map lights (CF5)
$725.00

Assistance System
OnStar, 1-year Safe and Sound Service, includes automatic notification of air bag deployment, stolen vehicle tracking, emergency services, roadside assistance, remote door unlock, remote horn and lights, GM Goodwrench remote diagnostics, AccidentAssist and online concierge. Drivers can also obtain the available voice-activated, hands-free personal calling service and virtual advisor that provides location-based traffic and weather reports and other personalized information. (UE1)
$695.00

Performance Package
Includes limited slip differential and front Recaro leather-accented bucket seats.
$1,500

Destination charge
$565

(none of the prices below include a rebate)
A completely decked out, every option comes to
$25,635 + sales tax 6% (new jersey) = $27,173.10

The 2006 Cobalt SS will have a 1% or 2% markup in price. If you DO NOT buy your Cobalt SS before May 31, there is no guarantee that you will get a rebate. Rebates change every month. So if you ordered your 2006 Chevy Cobalt SS, and it arrives in late August, do not assume you will have a rebate available. If you pay anything more then $26,000 for your cobalt (not including tax, or rebate) you are getting taken for. The dealerships are adding anywhere from $100-$1000 ontop of your price, because they need to make a profit. You can talk them down in the price. All of this information is coming from a salesmen who if good friends with my dad. He told me that he could give us $800 off of the price, because he knows us and is discounting it a little. Know your information before buying your car to get the best deal. Also, get an online price quote from dealerships. I got an Internet price of $19,658 for an SS (no options included). If you go into a dealership and say you want it for the internet price, show them the paper work and proof, more the likely you will get the car for much less. I hope this helps anyone thinking of buying a Cobalt SS.

Do you mean the SS/SC or the SS? It's gonna get a little confusing with three different Cobalts with an SS moniker.

Will the 2006 SS be supercharged? I know they are offering it with a 2.4L.

All of that info is for the SS SuperCharged. The SS SuperCharged will still be 2.0L, while the 2.4L will not be supercharged. So if you want a SS SuperCharged, the prices above are what they will be in 05, and in 06 they will go up 1% or 2%..

When you got the Internet price of $19658 was that with all the options how much was that MSRP and where did you get the price from?

The internet price was with nothing..no options. The msrp was 21995, the internet was 19568 or something. What you do is send an email to the dealership and ask for an internet price and msrp price. the internet price should be lower the msrp.

Careful what you say people listen to everything... the rebates do not change every month, they change 3 times a year. The first part of the year GM offered nothing then was the Hotbuy which ends may 31st and usually the end of the year is even better becasue they are trying to get rid of the 05' year before the 06's come.

People that dont work at car dealerships must live on a different planet. I work at a Honda dealership. Today is memorial day. There were no sales, nothing. Everycar cost the same from the first of the month, to the last. But we had so many cars today because everyone thinks they are getting a good deal cause its the end of the year, the end of the month, or a holiday. Guess what? That car you bought today, was the same price the first day of the month. A GM salesperson who is friends with my family, salesmen at my work, all say the same thing: Rebates change month to month. Now, if a company says that until May 31 there will be 1,000 cash back, and the current date is March, well then it lasts for more months. The dealers dont know what rebate will be offered every month. It could be the same, but they don't know till the 1st of every month. SS Cobalts are pretty hard right now to find, so they arent going to drop the price of the 05 because the 06's are out. We have 2004 and 2005 Honda Accords in the parking lot. Same price in for an 04 and a 05. They know they will sell, and they know people will buy them. So dont count on a rebate being around forever, because they change frequently. This I am 100% positive on.

I gotta Question for ya. What about with the GM employee discount, my dad has been working for GM for over 20 years now. What would the price be for a SS S/C with everything, except G85 and Onstar(about 23,500 MSRP)?? A salesman told me it'd be close to 17500-18000 for a new one with GM employee discount. Share some insight please, looking to buy soon and hoping it'll be that cheap, thanks

I believe that if you work for GM, you can get about 3,000 off the price. Now GM has just released news that, since 6/1/05, all Cobalt SS's will be brought down the employee discount prices. Meaning, I dont work for GM. But if I go to a chevy dealership, and request a 24,500 Cobalt SS, fully loaded, I can buy it for 21,500. I believe its only on the 2005 models. So basically, anyone as of 6/1/2005 can buy a Cobalt SS and get about 3000 off there price. All GM dealerships across america are doing this. Thats pretty damn good if you ask me. Screw the 1,000 hot button rebate, thats over. This new GM employee discount for anyone thing is awesome. I may get mine sooner then expected. The price you gave me though seems like a lot off. A little crazy if you ask me. My dad used to work for a GM dealership, most he got off on a car was about $2,000. So, i think he may have over exagerrated the price a little to much

What is the official MSRP of the 2006 SS/SC? The same as '05? Or did it go up?

I talked to a dealer yesterday and he said they didn't have official price information on the 2006's.

So GM is screwing everyone over whom they couldn't deliver the G85 package to and make them pay even more now to get it? Smart... real smart.

Everything you need + more

Not to hijack the thread, but will the G85 package even be available on the 2.4 SS?

I dont think it will be available for the non supercharged version, but I could be wrong. Go to www.edmunds.com and you can choose your model, and the options you want. See if they let you choose the G85 with the 2.4L motor..

interesting......

I agree with the whole discount for all employes. To me, it just sounds simply to sell out there used cars off there lots faster. I don't think its even a good deal to start off with anyways. it might even work........hopefully well beable to get some results of the vechicles chevy actually sells out a month from now.

I think anybody can try to get a good deal anyways by talking with the dealers to lower to price of the vechicle around 1,000 or maybe 2. ahhh.....oh well.....you never know...

see ya....

Dude....

Please note, this THREAD IS OLD -> 05-29-2005, 09:48 PM

GM has lowered all sticker prices on January 11th 2006. Still some useful info here. Perhaps we can get an update from the original thread starter
