Yeah but why would you? That would be like going from driving a Vette to a Focus.

All I'm going to say about that is

As long as you changed your oil on time you don't need to flush it, just change it like regular. Most of those oil flushes are just doctored up kerosene, do you want kerosene in your internals?

At 12000 miles its almost time to change your blinker fluid too.

I bought my filters from gmpartsdirect.com 10 at a time. The shipping is too costly for just 1.

part number 12579143 it comes out to 5.68 each shipped.

I heard the best is to start with regular oil then switch to synthetic at about 20000miles.

They say you shouldn't use synthetic until the engine is already broken in (unless, of course, the car comes with it). However, these engines are broken in before they even get put in the car. The transmission, suspension, clutch, etc isn't, but you're not going to put oil in those.

It's safe to change to synthetic whenever you want, and it will last a long, long time. Just make sure you check your oil level and also pay attention to how dirty it is. It will likely show signs of getting dirty after 5k or so miles, but the oil itself will be fine. Change the filter, and you'd be good for another 5k. Of course, that varies depending on where you live. If you're in the dustbowl like me, you may go as many miles before it gets dirty.

As far as 93 keeping the engine clean, all gasolines have detergents in them for just that purpose. A good oil will also resist sludge build-up. (another benefit to synthetic)

And like the other guys said, don't forget to change your horn and blinker fluids.

Sounds like you use non-synthetic mobile 1.

I don't own a Cobalt yet. (I'll be ready to buy in about 1-2 months, and right now Cobalt is my #1 choice).

However, from reading your post you made it sound like you can change the filter without changing the oil. How? I thought if you took the filter off all the oil will just pour out there.

The filter is mounted up high on the front of the block, under a little cap. Unscrew the cap, and the filter comes out with it. You spill maybe 2 drops, if any. Nothing pours out.

No, you should change now, after your first oil change it would have been safe.

Exactly - even though it's kind a bitch to reach on the ss/sc, I still love it as opposed to my old car, on the very bottom. Even after the oil drained, the filer would retain a ton of the stuff, and I'd always get some on me. On this one, just unscrew it, lift it a bit and tap it to shake off a little excess, and it's a completely mess-free change.
