As long as you changed your oil on time you don't need to flush it, just change it like regular. Most of those oil flushes are just doctored up kerosene, do you want kerosene in your internals?

They say you shouldn't use synthetic until the engine is already broken in (unless, of course, the car comes with it). However, these engines are broken in before they even get put in the car. The transmission, suspension, clutch, etc isn't, but you're not going to put oil in those.
It's safe to change to synthetic whenever you want, and it will last a long, long time. Just make sure you check your oil level and also pay attention to how dirty it is. It will likely show signs of getting dirty after 5k or so miles, but the oil itself will be fine. Change the filter, and you'd be good for another 5k. Of course, that varies depending on where you live. If you're in the dustbowl like me, you may go as many miles before it gets dirty.
As far as 93 keeping the engine clean, all gasolines have detergents in them for just that purpose. A good oil will also resist sludge build-up. (another benefit to synthetic)
And like the other guys said, don't forget to change your horn and blinker fluids.

I don't own a Cobalt yet. (I'll be ready to buy in about 1-2 months, and right now Cobalt is my #1 choice).
However, from reading your post you made it sound like you can change the filter without changing the oil. How? I thought if you took the filter off all the oil will just pour out there.
