All prices are directly from build your own on the respective manufacturer's wwebsite.

Base MSRP vs. Base MSRP

Cobalt SS/SC (Top Model): $21,465

350Z (Base Model): $27,650 / Difference: $6,185

350Z (Enthusiast): $29,350 / Difference: $7,885

Loaded MSRP vs. Loaded MSRP

Cobalt SS/SC: $23,885

350Z (Base): $30,635 / Difference: $6,750

350Z (Enthusiast): $32,335 / Difference: $8,450

There were many options on the 350Z that would have added another $1-2K that weren't anything needed, cargo nets, floor mats, etc.

One of the options that may be an advantage is the 5 speed auto with manual mode, which adds $1000 to the price on the Enthusiast model.

I appreciate that you like the Cobalts and are telling us that we need not consider ourselves an underdog, but we are. We are talking a minimum of $6000 difference. Also, like mentioned above, we get ours for well under MSRP while the 350Zs seem to be going for MSRP or above.

Welcome to the site. I'm sure your insight will be much appreciated on this side of the fence.

HAHA!! Cheap insurance. My insurance for the SS/SC is more than the GTO. Maybe because of the younger demographic that usually buys these cars, I really don't understand it. I really was surprised.

Thats weird my insurance on my Cobalt SS/SC is less than it was on my 04 Grand Am GT and its less than I pay on my 01 Eclipse that I drive to work in.

While i appreciate that my ss/sc can hang with a stock Z, the simple fact is that if i had the extra money for a pmt and then to mod a car, I'd be driving a 350 without a doubt. While their stock numbers aren't terribly impressive, that nismo v6 has all the potential in the world. With turbo and a tune, that bad boy is hanging with some of the best.

The two cars are for 2 dif. audiences. Those of us with a ss/sc don't feel like we're the underdogs. We DO feel like we don't get a ton of respect out there from some of the more established scenes, and that's why we may come off the way you perceive us.

You're not the only ones... talk about getting no respect...

Tis ok though, when I have people in CTS-Vs and Cobras coming over to congratulate me for beating them around the track over and over again, it feels even better...

I paid 23k for my 2006 Cobalt rally yellow fully loaded g85 package. Had 3miles on it, the 3 miles I put on test driving. The thing about price is, you pay for the name peroid. People think there getting a higher quilty car going with a Honda or Lexus, My first car was a Chevy Camaro. I had 216k miles on it and I only ever had to replace a tranny bracket and water pump. I beat the living crap out of it, nutral bombs, burn outs at every stop sign. I was 16 and did not know how to take care of the car. Ran strong and still is, my freind owns it now. I don't think you can find a better deal for the performance we have in aout Cobalt SS/SC. 23k cash, 75k bumper to bumper or 7year. fully loaded g85. You could not ever buy a brand new car with the perforance for this price on any other lot.

Honestly guys, The guy came in here to give us props for our cars, and what do you do? Say his g/f paid too much for her cobalt, which she may have but thats beside the point. Take this as a compliment. Its nice to hear from the owners of more expensive cars that they think our cars are nice.

Yeah I really was suprised too. What also is funny is the insurance on my 3 series is more than what I pay on my 750 and that was a WAY more expensive car than the 3 and parts for that run a premium over the 3 as well. It could have something to do with the region I live in or something. I don't understand it.

I got almost everything in my car onstar, xm radio, sunroof, side airbags, extended 75,000 miles warranty but no g85 package and my car cost me a **** load. Taxes really know how to f*** you over, and having bad credit doesn't give you much room to haggle. That lesson i learned the hard way, but screw it like i said earlier i own an ss s/c and not everyone can say that. It's just worth every damn penny.

The 350Z is a really nice car. My dad has a 2004 Z and I drive it all the time.

Before I got my SS/SC I found it hard to believe that these were faster then Z's in a straight line after watching numerious videos, and now after driving both cars back to back I can see why.

The Z no doubt handles better, but the power of the SS makes up for that. I like the SS better because it has 4 seats and more room. I also think the Z looks better then our Cobalts but thats just my opinion. I know for a fact that I get more looks when driving my dads Z then driving my Cobalt.. though I've only had my cobalt 3 days. lol

that was his gf's msrp sticker price.. he never once said she paid that much!!!

and the new 350Z's are faster than the old ones.

the problem with the Z is its weight, because the platform wasnt exclusive to the Z, so its shared with other cars and even trucks, so its heavier than if it was designed exclusivly for the Z. but it is a great track car and a good tune and a couple simple mods evens out that powerband

i love the Z, in fact i was this close to getting a brand new red 06 base model (o yea and 300hp ) instead of the cobalt, but bc i pay for my own car, and attend college, so if i happen to not be able to work alot one or two semesters i dont want to struggle with the extra $60 per month (yea i kno not much but i aint rich)

Well even if the cobalt was only 2k less then if you gave us the 2k we could stage 2.8", exhaust, and intake and beat the hell out of a Z for the same price probably a little less.

All in all I love my car I love all cars, and the fact is that your never gonna be the fastest so it doesn't matter who wins or loses someone will be faster.

and not have the interior and higher quality parts (such as the Carbon Fiber driveshaft and xenon headlights and.. **** i havent thought about the Z in a long time--cant remember anythign else..lol) that the Z comes with....

different strokes for different folks... every1 needs to realize that both cars are an outstanding package for their prices, both are good looking vechicles, and both have potential.

o and for the people who talk about modding cars, while its more expensive to mod a Z, their aftermarket is pretty damn large and is still one of the fastest growing out there today. every aftermarket show has tons and tons of new products for the VQ35's with tons of built show and race Z's and g35's

Please show it to me. Mine was 24,4xx and that was a 2007 model. Did you pay for pinstriping or undercoating or something.

You must have connections if you picked up a loaded Cobalt SS for below invoice, how dod you manage that. My supplier discount got me to 21,400 and that was only a few hundred over invoice.

Oh I completely understand that but Cobalt's, and compact car's in general, only have about a $1,000.00 difference between invoice and MSRP (markup) and with a car as hot as the Cobalt is, I was just wondering why a dealer would sell it under invoice when they are not making that much money too begin with even at MSRP

If it's a high volume dealer, they may choose to take a loss one cheap car, like the SS/SC, because they sold 10 Corvettes that week and have made quite a bit of cash for the week, but really need to hit that 20 car quota. Things like that. That's why you can typically get a better dealer at a larger, busy dealer, than a small one.

My Redline was listed at $24,995 when I got it, and I paid 19k for it. The price on it IS 19k now...

Wow, that's strange, especially since yours is a 2.4L. I pay about 30% for the RL than I would for the Talon TSI AWD I'm not driving. And the GTO would cost me about 100% more than the Talon did.

But SpOOner's right, the Ion Redline IS classified a 4dr Coupe, just like the RX-8.
