ProfDNS' Interior "Build"
#26
I don't know much about the "Dynamat" or other brands. I also have never really looked into it all. I have a few questions. Why cut out so many squares and rectangles, and shapes? would it work better to use solid sheets? Like some panels have voids with empty space, couldn't you just cover the empty space? or like on the trunk floor, couldn't you just lay it down in long strips, cut where you need to, and butt it up against the the previous piece? I feel like more coverage can only increase the outcome.... I could be totally wrong though.
Also this is to help sound quality in the car and keep reverb down by adding thickness to the panels right? This won't really help keep road noise and exhaust noise down in the cabin right?

I used dynamat for most of of my project, one area I used dynapad simply because one shop had already bought it, so I'll put it to good use. When I started the sound deadening part of the project, I wasn't using amazon which I should have done. The local car parts shop charged me way too much and I too used way more than I thought I would. My reasoning for using wasn't to keep sound in, it was to keep road noise out. When I did my Frank Hawley NHRA drag racing course, I was very aware of all of the pinging of rocks on the underside of the car while I was driving back from the end of the dragstrip back to the pits.
Looking at this application, it makes sense to keep the sounds in the car from the stereo. It's well worth the investment to have a great sounding audio system.
That wasn't a consideration for me because I don't get stereo or A/C but I do get the next best thing, the sound of a rumbling V8 and I will use that as my stereo.
I also like the painted trim pieces and I've decided to do the same thing.

Yeah in probably going to go with that mat and see what happens. Me having a clearer audio and preventing extra road noise from coming inside the cabin mostly exhaust sounds
Edit:Well placed the order lol also got the front konis while I was at it

I agree. My first priority once I fixed what little rust the car had was getting it running. They were not sound tight cars at all. Once I got the dynamate in it and the interior back in, wow it was almost like a modern car. It was well worth it, especially with its loud exhaust. I try and remember being like 4 and riding in my dads 67 Camaro. I don't think it was too bad. They were only 22 years old at the time. I highly recommend doing it.

Yrah I agree. Might be a process but I'm sure we'll worth it. I got 2 boxes of 36 sqft so that should be more than enough for what I want to do but if I need more ill order another box at that time. Also since I have a hard time hearing when someone is in the back seats and talking keeping noises to a minimum will be great for me

So I tried to work over the last weekend for the doors, I made it 3 pieces in and had to quit. It's too hot and even in the shade. At least I was able to get my rear sway bar done (at 7am) when it was cool enough. The project is on hold until my 14 day quarantine is done; so the earliest I can get back to it is the 20th. Ugh.

It's been 33°C + humidex. When my knees are sweating with the rest of the body, it's hot!

Well, I purchased my subwoofer and monoblock D class. That'll be installed at the end of the month, I want to try to finish the doors before I have a friend help me with wiring. It sucks staring at the car in the parking lot just baking in the hot sun

Another update! I need to buy 1 more box of sound deadener for now to do the passenger door, and whatever I can get at for the floor or roof. Mostly finished the driver's side door - just need to work on the door panel itself but weather happened.
Spoiler

Thanks!
This took about 4 hours total. Tedious yes, but I think I tackled it with my planning of doing the edges first then moving inwards versus cut and slap (what I pretty much did with the trunk lid)
The project will be on hold again as I begin to quarantine for 2 weeks starting tomorrow. I have to contact Health Canada to see if I can go out into the parking lot at least and maybe do some more or if I'm completely locked in my apartment.

Damn bro again? Hopefully they let you. I dont see why not as long as no one is close to you. I did my suspension when I was quarantined since no one was close to me

Well I went.to visit my folks and coming back today. Problem is, I'm not sure they consider the parking lot as part of the quarantine area especially for apartments. Hopefully it's fine. I'll just need a friend to pick up the sound deadening package for me since it's 50 lbs a box
