I'm trying to get the factory remote started added too, and I'm having no luck. Many of the newer Chevy cars (Cobalts included) come from the factory with the AP8 option, which means that they already have all of the hardware for remote start. You can get a kit from Chevy for about $200 that includes two new key fobs and a code that the dealer needs to program into the computer to enable the remote start option. (Search Ebay for AP8 and you'll see what I mean). Even my 07 Cobalt manual mentions that if you didn't get the factory remote start that the dealer can add it.

Unfortunately, I've talked to several dealers about adding this option, but no one can seem to find the remote start kit from Chevy for the Cobalts. They acknowledge that my car does have the AP8 option, but apparently Chevy just doesn't make the kit. I have hope that it will be available in the future, but so far I've had no luck. If you manage to find anything, please let me know.

Its probably more trouble then a stock system is worth. Look into the aftermarket. Autopage has a nice system that displays the temperature inside the car and everything on the remote. 2 way sytems are so much better, plus with the GM-CAN bus interface is a snap to install alarms. http://www.autopageusa.com/t_inside....5-ebe9de1a12be

I want to put a remote starter in a manual SS/SC, why is it that I can't? Or what can I do to make it possible?

Go aftermarket. Viper makes some of the best systems around. I can remote start from 300 ft away while still inside buildings. Great for those cold nights leaving the bowling alley. The better systems can also be programmed to connect to accessories. I can turn on my rear defroster with the push of a button.

Manuals are more complicated because they need a kill switch just in case you leave it in gear. You don't want the car going through the back of the garage cuz it turned on in gear. Supposedly its been a problem

yeah with a manual car you need a clutch override, and aftermarket if installed incorrectly it can really mess your car up, had a friend of mine sit down on his remote and accidentally start his car, he heard his alarm go off and walked outside to see his car humping his basketball net, starting jumping forward then stalling again.
he was pretty pissed!

Yeah, I just got my Cobalt SC/SS yesterday, and I realized that to do a normal remote start would require a lot of deviation from the standard because the clutch has to be all the way down to start the car. And yeah, to prevent it from starting in gear too.

Yea, go aftermarket if you are going to remote start it. I got a Viper, w/out remote start, but it's badass!

you have to watch it with remote starters on gm cars. i had one on my old sunfire and it started geting messed up and it would set off that alarm where it thinks the cars geting hot wired and shuts my gas off to the motor. i would have to wait 20min to start the car again with the key.
