rip transmission

A few days ago I pulled into a parking lot. I clutched, dropped from 2nd to neutral and waited for a car to pass. I let off the clutch while in neutral and the car jerked and stalled. I fondled with the shifter and it was not engaging into any of the gears. It was moving freely almost like the cable was disconnected from it, but it wasn't. I had the car towed to the dealer and they said they found metal shavings in the fluid. Im guessing that I may have broken the yoke causing a gear to go somewhere that it wasn't supposed to causing mayhem inside the transmission when I let off the clutch. I think it may have been from slamming into gears too hard.

Damn. That sucks. Hopefully it will all work out for you. What are your plans? New transmission, or rebuilt/rebuilding, or looking for a used one?

Warranty will pay for repairs. Hopefully they slap a new one in. Id love a good rebuild so it can handle the bolt ons I plan on doing the next couple months. Maybe a block of wood behind the shifter so I don't break the Damn thing again!

I'm glad to hear that you are still inside of the warranty, killtank, and that everything's being taken care of. Keep us updated on how everything runs once you get it back, and if I can be of any assistance in the meantime let me know!

Thanks! Looks like I may receive a new F35 since the cost to fix exceeds the replacement. GM stuck me in a 2012 sonic till I get my car back. GM has always taken care if me so no worries.

That's great! I know it's not your Cobalt, but how are you liking the Sonic? Is it the hatchback or sedan?

The cobalt is running good. The only issue im having now is the lock/unlock not working on my key but th
e trunk release still works. Im not sure if the remote is covered under warranty but im hoping its a low battery. Thanks, we hope to wed this december.
