Rough Idle, Black Smoke
Was driving to work this morning and the check engine light came on in my 2005 SS/SC. It was raining a little bit out and the car does have the AEM Short Tube Intake. I got outta work and went to start my car and it took a little to get it to turn over and then when it did start it was jumping in the rpm range and wanting to shut off. I tried giving it some throttle and it blew out black smoke. Tried to make it to a garage and it would hardly move. Finally it basically died on me and the message I got on my console was Engine Running Low. I shut it down and had it towed to the local Chevy dealership. Not sure what is wrong. Hope its not going to cost me a whole lot. Anyone have this type of thing happen to them? Thx for any info.

Depnding on how much rain / big puddles you ran threw ...... the AEM air filter could be soaked and got all over the MAF . I had to run a hydroshield on my AEM filter when I had my SS/SC .....otherwise it was soaked everytime it rained. There was a gap between the body and inner fender at the top of the front wheel that would practically make a waterslide to guide the water right onto my intake and filter .

Thx for the input. I got my car back on friday and the MAF was bad. It cost me $312 for the part and for them to put it on. I was planning on getting the ZZP 3" intake and a hydroshield, but with the money I had to spend to fix my car, it kind of put a halt to that.

Yeah, the part itself from the dealer(where I had to get the car towed too) was $106. The other $200 was for them to take off and put on the intake. If I would have been able to do that myself, I definitely would have, but I don't think they would have let me come to the lot and do it myself cause my car wasn't drivable.
