Saturn Ion Redline
Hey guys. I'm trying to figure out what car I want to buy for my first car (16 just got license) and I've seen pictures of a Saturn Ion Redline, and it looks really good for a low price. I know it's got the same engine as a Cobalt, and I was just wondering your guys' opinion on the car and if you would recommend it to a first car buyer who wants to get into modifications. Thanks again.

I own an 04 I still love it even though I have an 09 sstc aswell. Great car. Look for an 05 and up with the gunmetal rims and the ladder tach boost gauge. It's a good indication it's a competition package with a limited slip diff. The 04 also has diff trans mounts so buying mounts is harder. Also the 04 axels are different and cost a lot more

Yup no problem man...it's very hard to pass up on this deal. The car has been very well taken care of. We are actually putting drilled and slotted rotors and new pads on this Thursday.

I got a redline and love it. A lot of people don't realize the redline came before the cobalt ss. It is better to avoid the 04 year as some parts harder to come by.
As far as a first car. It's not too bad if you get some rotated mounts and cooling mods. The quad coupe is a useful feature for friends and the dent resistance will come in handy. Plus since saturn went under, you can get a good deal.

I've had mine for 3-4 years and don't plan on selling it anytime soon. Modded the s/c and got bored so put a turbo on and it's much better . Good reliable car, and nothing better than beating on cars with a "pos saturn".
IRL isn't really high insurance. When I first got it and was on my parents plan it was like 55/mo. I think I pay 150/mo which is kinda high but I get free towing and roadside and **** included so worth it to me. It gets off cause it's classified as a 4 door and few other things.

I was gonna buy one before i got my ss/tc. But i missed it. It was an 06 iirc beautiful blue color. I'd still rep one if i could. You don't see to many of them. Least round my way.

IMO the redline is the way to go if you don't mind the quirks of the Saturn vs a cobalt:
1. Center speedo
2. Plastic body
3. Not ALL parts you would assume to be the same are the same as the Cobalt.
4. Its a Saturn... so the haters of the Sport compacts are x1000
I rather enjoy all the quirks, it makes the car even more unique!
As far as the cars I drove, the IONS seemed to always be better than the SS/SC price was ALWAYS better, the interior quality seemed better (splitting hairs since neither car is a Mercedes), and general maintenance and care was always better. Your experiences may vary.
