Is there a place we could set up a grill or something over by rex plex? If one of you Kenosha guys wants to scout out around there that would be cool otherwise i will be in k-town Sunday. I'm cool with the 15th also.....anybody else good with the 15th?

I sent an email to the RecPlex about using one of the picnic areas (Picnic Area 6). It looks like on the website we have to pay between $15-$25 hr to reserve an area with tables but I'm not sure about if you just "show up" with a few people and a small grill if that would be necessary. Seems like if you want to reserve you have to pay but not for a first come first serve situation. I was just there this past Monday with my family. We had ZERO issues. Spread out a blanket, had a cooler and everything. No one approached us at all.
Either way, hopefully they get back to me tomorrow. I don't mind paying since we'd have to pay at the other spot too (after May 15, the city requires payment).

Okay, I got some emails back from RecPlex. It looks like we can use the picnic areas for free IF we don't bring a grill. We can just show up and take a spot no problem.
If we want to bring a grill then we have to officially rent a picnic spot fo $15/hr with a 3hr minimum so it would cost us $45. They don't allow us to reserve parking but there are lots of parking spots.
IMO, this place is beautiful but I am not so sure I want to be responsible for paying that and then having to get money back from everyone when we ALWAYS get no shows. I think the spot by the Lake is something like $25. I can't remember. I think Bryan was gonna call them.
While driving yesterday, I did find ANOTHER spot that I actually think would be really nice, Anderson Park. Its got a parking lot, covered picnic area, a lake and a playground for the kids. Its on the south end of 22nd Ave in Kenosha. I'll give the city a call and find out more about it to see if it would be feasible. You can go on Google Maps and look at it to see what you think.
The one thing I didn't like about the spot by Lake Michigan is that we had to cross the street and none of the picnic area looked covered. But I am open to suggestions. We could also consider Sterling Lake in IL. They have some nice picnic spots and parking spots there and its gorgeous there too. Plus we can go fishing (eventhough I swear the fish don't bite in there, ).

If we want to get crazy, there is a cool forest preserve about 30 minutes west of CED. We had a meet there in... September? or so and it was nice. Lot of covered places, they have those built in grills (so just have to bring charcoal or whatever) and since it's the preserve, it's free. Lots of parking right there also.
Also some stunning twisty roads to get there, and also in the park (though they ticket like crazy, so watch the speed while in the park)
Moraine Hills was the name of it, in looking, it's right by McHenry. So a bit of a drive, but it was nice.

Also just checked Van Patten Woods, Sterling Lake, and all the Covered Picnic areas are reserved according to their website. They do have other non covered picnic areas as well on a first come first served basis.

According to Kenosha's website daily rental is $75. That includes Anderson Park. What if we do the RecPlex and either bring prepared food or order some pizza's or something? I'm not opposed to paying the $45 for the 3 hours if we can get people to pay one person ahead of time to reserve the location. Or we just show up with a grill and clame we had no idea! lol
Questions are... Who's gonna get there to claim a spot and who else will show up to a car meet before noon?

I dont mind getting there around 10 as long as everyone shows at like 11. There is stuff the kids can do while we wait. Now do we want to bring food or at say 11:30-12 whoever is there pitches in a few bux and somebody goes and grabs some $5 pizzas from little ceasers. That is probably the cheapest food we could get.
