in a straight line they are. stage 2 cobalt should beat a stock srt4 tho. but a stage 2 srt4 will rape a stage 2 cobalt. and a stage 3 srt4 is a mid 12 second car.

your auto to manual will cost a lot of money. probably a few thousand. and, don't forget you already paid 850 for your auto, so add that to the mix. not worth it imo.

this is true. but is it worth it for thousands of dollars? not really. there's much better things you can spend your money on to make your car quicker.

which is why people who plan on tuning a car only buy manuals. you have better control over your powerband.

If you're all about horsepower and going fast then go with the SRT-4. If you want something that's pretty quick, better interior and fit and finish go with the cobalt ss/sc. They want to damned much for SRT-4's for what they are.

Totally untrue! So many 1/4 milers love automatics because you can program an automatic transmission, after market torque converters, and more consistent drag times.

The automatic transmission in the Solstice GXP's and Sky Redlines shift faster then a manual and they have better rated fuel economy!

I think a manual is better for autocrossing but if they made this car with dsg like in the gti's I would have been all over it.

You'd be better off selling the car and just buying an ss/sc for the amount of headache and cash it will take you to swap a manual tranny in.

I look at this question a 'lil differently.

Having driven/owned both cars, this is how I see it:
  • stock SRT-4 is faster than a stock SS/SC
  • Stage 2 SS/SC is just about = to a stock SRT-4
  • in all fairness, we can't compare a St. 2 SRT-4 to a St. 2 SS/SC because (installed by a dealer) Stage 2 is covered under Chevrolet's bumper-to-bumper warranty
  • SRT-4 St. 2 is NOT covered under Dodge's bumper-to-bumper warranty (none of their Stage kits are)

So both are really great cars, and are = when comparing manufacturer's fully warrantied performance (St.2 SS/SC vs. stock SRT-4).

Sometimes I miss the 4 doors of the SRT-4 though ...
