i won't argue that a dealer is the best way to go, but knowing a bit about your car will keep a situation like the ones in the video from happening. If they know you know youyr car, then they may be a bit more leary about screwing someone over.

I used to go to Swift Lube and I always used Castrol oil. They put Penz oil in my GTI and Audi 3 times. I made them drain it and put Castrol in all 3 times. When they brought the bill, it showed Penz oil, a new filter each time too.

Since we're all a bunch of "car guys" (otherwise we wouldn't be on a forum like this), we should all be changing it ourselves anyway.

BTW If you live in an apartment or some place where they won't let you do it in the parking lot, just pack up your stuff and do it at some random shopping center. Not an Autozone or anyplace that would be too obvious; try Petsmart or something like that where no one would notice a car with the hood up.

Sometimes it is just easier for time constraints, location, proper disposal of the oil and other issues just to pay someone else to change it for you. I myself will probably be taking it to the dealership to have it done. It also helps to know people.

Talk about scamming a customer, ran into a guy with a Redline that says he pays $118 for every oil change at the local Saturn dealership because they said they have to remove his supercharger everytime to change the oil filter. I told him that I pay $45 at a 10 Min. Express Lube right down the road, and that's with Mobile 1, too (I always watch to make sure they change the filter and actually use Mobile 1). The guy with the Redline didn't look like he believed me, either.

And that is why when I go to any places like that I stand right there and watch my vehicle!!! And for any other services other than an oil change I go to the dealerships. Know it cost more but hey at least you think there it will get done and done right..

The only time I would ever go to place like that is for an emissions inspection. All other work I will either do on my own, allow someone I know to do for me, or bring to teh dealer if its a warranty issue.

Remember, at that meet, when I told you about how I took my car to the Sears at the Lakeland Mall for it's first oil change thinking they couldn't possibly screw something as easy as that up, but they did? After they couldn't find the oil filter they told me to come back and get my car, then the next day after my car back fired I pulled over, popped the hood, and found they never put the oil cap back on...

Not surprising in the least. If I have to take my car to one of the independent lube places, I always watch them to make sure that they are not screwing with anything, and I never get them to do anything but an oil change or inspection.

i'll always take the baby to the dealer and everytime its their i look at the guy thats doing the work to make sure he's changing the filter and putting in the oil and checking the fluid so later on they can't tell me "yeah we did it" and i've never gone to jiffy lube always the dealer but if you realize something theirs alot of chiks that go to jiffy lube cause its cheap and quick and majority of them get robbed. thats good they got caught hope they get sued

want to hear something scary about jiffy lube
I use to take my S10 there a couple of times when it was to cold out to do my own oil change (living in NE it friggin cold).
And i saw a Cobalt sssc get it oil changed (thats when i first saw the cobalt sssc and said i wanted one)and some dude pulled it out of the bay which was kinda on a hill and saw the car jump out of gear or something and rolled right into the street and get smashed up bad by on coming traffic

The friggin ******** forgot to set the ebrake on a incline im guessing "stupid ass"
well i will tell you i bet the customer got a brand new car after that stunt because i know i would of.
And after that i never took my vechiles there again ,i would freeze my ass off before i bring it there.

JIFFY SUCKS !!! period i would NEVER take my Cobalt sssc there and that person was stupid to bring his\her Balt there to begin with but i bet he\she sued the **** out of them.

Most of the people that work there are want to be techs and know nothing about cars and get paid 5 bucks an hour and careless about your cars.

I saw a jiffy lube changing the oil on an SS/SC about 6 months ago. The guy was looking and looking and looking... and never found the oil filter. So he gave up... told them it was done. I promptly walked over... explained to the owner what I saw, then asked the mechanic where the oil filter was.

Needless to say... she got a free Oil Change... and never took it there again.

Pro Lube FTW
Jiffy Lube FTL

As someone who pays for their cobalt ss/sc and college education by changing oil and other maintenance, i find this particularly disgusting.

I find it oddly coincidental that 5 of the 9 jiffy lubes that that particular manager was responsible for did this. That man should go to jail.

But serious kudos to those news people for actually having the gonads to call people down for it. I usually hate press but these guys were actualy doing some good.
