test drove cobalt SC, charger R/T, srt4
a few weeks ago i test drove a SS/SC which i really loved. today i went to a chrysler car show in toledo where they had a pretty big road type corse set up. i drove the new charger R/T and then the srt-4.
the charger was ok, it felt huge and was very slow off the line, mashed the gas and nothing happened till about 20mph then it started gaining speed and felt fast. plus the charger looks like a plain-jane boreing family sedan, but it handled very nice.
the srt4 was faster feeling then the charger and very fun to drive, i didnt care for the shifter or the interior, but even being a die hard chevy fan i can admit i liked the car. over-all i still think the SS is worth the little bit extra money. i'll be getting an 06 SS/SC baby! but at least its nice to see that chrysler isnt makeing complete garbage anymore.
p.s. on a bad note for the the srt4 neon it stoped running shortly after i drove it, so im glad i got there when i did

It's nice you got to drive thoes cars. I have not been able to drive an srt-4 but I would really like to at some point. Most say it's faster in a straight line when compared to the Cobalt, which I beleive. I would just like to do a direct comparason to see for myself.
After driving the srt-4, did you feel like it was the more powerful car?

A couple members here will chime in after I post but oh well.
Two of my good friends have SRT-4's. One is 100% stock to the filter and the other only has some kind of " Ricer " intake on it. When my car was showroom fresh and when I was driving nicely it was a even match stop light to stop light and in the 1/4. The only time I couldn't hang was when we would mess around from a high MPH roll then they could usually put a fender on me. Now with 2000+ miles my high end is way better and the SRT-4's see tail lights. Stop light races are still pretty even but even in my Camaro SS my SS/SC will hang light to light.

I beleive the driver plays the largest role in how a car performs on the road, anyone can tell you what it can do on paper.

A good driver is 70% of the race in my opinion.
Thats why I only post about real world situations and not magazine tests. Some magazines back in the day couldn't get better than high 13's out of LS1 F-Bodies.

You could easily make srt-4 type hp with a turbo kit on that 2.2L. I agree, the interior is nicer on the Cobalt.

The kid must be a bad driver then cause im sorry to tell you but the srt-4 will smoke and already has smoked the cobalt ss/sc. There is even multiple videos proving it from what I hear ive only seen one. RKSPORT2003 from www.j-body.org who now owns a ss/sc even said he spanked an rsx-s but got spanked by an srt-4.
I also cant see your cobalt ss/sc hanging with a camaro ss. Sorry

I am getting so tired of hearing the BS & lies.
A SS/SC will not only beat a RSX Type-S but it will slaughter it. They aren't even on the same playing field.
A SS/SC can easily hang with a SRT-4 and no the SRT-4 doesn't pull on a SS above 80mph. How do you expect anyone who has knowledge of cars to think otherwise? Every SRT-4 I see I pick on and I have yet to regret doing so. The only one that even beat me was running 18-20psi.
Just the whole SRT-4 logic is BS. I cannot even count how many have tried me in my Camaro. Same BS " My SRT-4 pulls so hard " & " My SRT-4 is fast " thats great . Then I completely blow all 4 of there doors off.
And the videos posted are such a good example

Guys I've ran 4 SRT-4's stock, both on the street and at the track.
These cars are EVEN!!!!
Anyone that says the SRT-4 is faster in a straight line never ran one against an SS/SC.
Yes I've been beat, but only by a couple inches, right up to 130 MPH.
I've beat them also but only by a couple inches. Niether one rules over the other

I try to be as nice as I can but sometimes it seems as if we are on a SRT forum.
In the last 3 years I have had:
1996 Firbird Formula
2000 Camaro SS
2003 Mustang GT
2002 Camaro SS
2005 Cobalt SS
I still have the 2002 Camaro, but otherwise with the exception of the GT my cars were all low 13 to high 12 second 1/4 machines. A 1999-2004 GT is a even battle for a SRT-4 in the 1/4 and it has been proven time and time again. Out on the highway the GT has no hope at all especially after shifting to 5th gear. I know the owner of my old GT and more than 10 others. I have played with a few and from a stop it's a drivers race and from a roll my SS/SC eats them alive even modded ones barely stand a chance.
But then agian I bought my SS/SC to play with V8's. I don't even think I would bother with a Civic or RSX. My logic is all about showing V8's what a 2.0 S/C can do not whooping up on 170HP monsters.

I've met up with a local owner and I was impressed by his car, but we did do about 5 runs from all different starting speeds on the highway and the SRT did win everytime. Maybe your messing with SRT-4 Designs LOL just kidding, but seriously stop bashing so much without some kind of proof. 20 psi SRT-4 can run 12's BTW.

I know what a SRT-4 running that kind of boost is capable of, but I still smoked him in my Camaro SS.
And yes people are racing SRT-4's we aren't stupid.
If you drive a SRT-4 and beat a Cobalt SS especially from a roll you are either
1) Flat out lying about the race
2) Racing a SS/SC with 200 miles on it
3) Racing against someone who has no driving skills what so ever
Period

The SRT-4's in your area must be the slowest SRT-4's in the country then. Either that or you need to stop taking hallucinogens. Or maybe the dozen or so GT's I've raced at the track were all "factory freaks" toward the slow side; or maybe none of the drivers knew how to drive them. 14.5's to 14.7's stock, the lightly modded ones (intake and/or exhaust) were running 14.2's - 14.4's.
I guess if the SRT-4's you've encountered have such crappy drivers that they're running mid 14's, then I could see why you think the way you do. Either that or your just another e-fake 15yo kid that's only dreamed about owning the cars you mentioned.
#18
Yea I agree with the others that must be an srt design your racing cause it just doesnt add up. Lets see the time slips and videos of your SS/SC beating an srt-4 since weve already seen the SS/SC getting beat by the srt-4. And im not bashing the SS/SC cause I love the car and almost bought one.

Your ignorance makes me laugh.
Now a GT isn't equal to a SRT-4 either? My 2003 GT with a K&N and nothing else ran a best time of 13.98. And I must be racing SRT Design cars. Who the hell buys those?
This whole SRT-4 vs SS argument is stupid. What exactly do you think is so much better about your awesome sedans? It isn't going to win based on HP, TQ or gearing so what is it?
I am sorry to tell you this but the SRT-4 isn't the top FWD dog anymore. Deal with it but quit coming here acting like your cars destroy all.

Now a GT isn't equal to a SRT-4 either? My 2003 GT with a K&N and nothing else ran a best time of 13.98. And I must be racing SRT Design cars. Who the hell buys those?

like ive said before,
its very hard to beat the SRT. No im not a ******* driver, its just stock for stock, i cant beat the SRT
Ive ran with some of the guys with stock SRT's and they pulled on me every time from a roll at several different speeds
granted my car has only 2300kms on it but still, with that extra 20-30hp they pull.. i can keep up to a point but when they shift and then they pull away.
Im not saying that its not true that you are beating SRTs cody, but your the only one stating that you can. If you can prove it, it would back up your statement alot more.
the only thing that i can think of is that you are jumpin the gun a bit forcing the upper hand or, the SRT is letting you win.

I am not arguing that SRT-4's aren't fast. I am just trying to get the point accross that they are not the fire breathing monsters some claim they are. Christ, there just a Neon with some kick!
I have taken my Camaro SS's and Mustang to the track several time but I am not going out of my way to post my slips. 12.9 for a LS1 is nothing special to me, I just wanted a sub 13 second car.
This argument can go on forever. I think the real problem here is that most SRT-4 owners have never had a " real " car. My SS/SC is the lowest HP car I have owned in 5 years. I guess if I never had any of my 4th gen F-Bodies I would most likely talk like my SS/SC was the baddest car built also............
