thinking of buying 05 lsj not running
Blue book on this on kbb is like 4000 with 165,000 miles. Price is 1,000(not sure of that's to much or not with engine problems). What I'm told is the timing jumped bent valves and hit pistons. So what I'm thinking is just replace with a used head. But I'm told the car won't even turn over at all which is what I'm confused on. I think it should still turn over. Maybe it does and they meant it won't start. Thoughts?

If valves got bent then Pistons may be junk so you may be putting a whole new motor in it. If you can get a good used motor and do it yourself then maybe you could break even. Not worth the hassle with that many miles. Who knows how the trans is if the car doesn't even run. Probably needs a clutch too.

Really? Yall don't think I could just slap a head on it and check the pistons and maybe blend the dings down slightly and call it a day?. I was thinking get it for 1000. Fix it with a head. Slap a 4000 price tag on it and make at least 2 grand. But things never go how they seem which is why I come here for advice.

if the car is in good shape i think it could be worth it.
dont hear of many ecotecs jumping the timing chain, guess it could happen, but its not common. id get a better look at it before you buy it, see what it does and doesnt do. if you determine it needs major engine work, track a used engine down before you buy the car, that way you have a cost for worst case scenario. also if your planning that, plan on the cost of a clutch, if your pulling the engine now would be the time to put one in. having the worst case planned out will tell you if there is room for profit on something like this.
or buy it, spend a pile on the engine and build a beast for yourself lol.

I've read a post from mr.b himself that he said before when someone was talking about tensioner failed and bent all valves that he suggested changed head and checking pistons and removing scuff marks. I see no way that is fixing it half assed

I would think there is too much that could go wrong but do what you want. I would never dress up Pistons to hand it off to someone else who thought it was a good motor. Hate guys who do that as I have been on the receiving end of a dirtbag that did it. 50 miles later I'm paying $1,200 to fix.
