Type of Gas

hey so in my manual, (2006 Cobalt SS 2.4L) It says that premium is recommended otherwise i will lose acceleration and maybe get some minor knocking. So i told my friends i'm going to fill with premium and they just laughed, saying "its just a cobalt" I know its not the super or turbo charged, but which fuel should i use?

...right now with 87 im getting 9.5/100km in town and around 6.5 on the highway, will premium make a dif?

no need to run 93... 91 will be fine if it requires higher octane.. heck ss/sc and ss/tc's only need a min of 91 octane (given they are stock)

Only time it affects anything is at WOT and under high loads at high temperatures. You will be more prone to detonation with a lower-grade fuel, but the car will run just fine on it.

You won't get better mileage out of higher octane gas, as it takes more energy to burn it actually has the effect of slightly retarding timing, so it will make ever so slightly less power, all things equal. If you are getting knock and the car is reducing timing, then you will feel more power with more octane, because the car can run the full desired ignition timing.

I put premium in the car... its a few bucks more per tank but it really does run better (sans 2.2L)
