Problems of low detergent
Without the proper detergents, engine components can become fouled, resulting in poor performance, stumbling, hesitation and stalling. When this happens, emissions spike, and the check-engine light may come on in 1996 and newer automobiles.
Insufficient detergents are a major cause of carbon buildup in the combustion chamber, especially on the intake valves. The porous carbon acts like a sponge, absorbing fuel when the engine is started, a time when more fuel is needed. The cold engine will be hard to start and may run poorly until the carbon can hold no more fuel or until the engine warms up.
Too little detergent also can lead to fuel-injector restrictions or clogging. Restrictions cause poor fuel-spray patterns and thus poor engine performance. Clogging can kill a cylinder.
Carbon buildup in the combustion chamber increases compression. If the compression becomes too high, the engine knocks or pings--especially on regular gasoline.
Well, it appears that
the car makers are beginning to point fingers at the oil industry for some
of the driveability complaints and emission test failures they are being
forced to address as warranty issues.
It appears that what they are saying is...it's not our car, it's your gas
that's broken!!!Be sure and visit the

website and see which gasoline
retailers in your area have chosen to voluntarily improve their fuels to
meet these higher standards so you can use and recommend them to the Colbalt owners.

I guess this is along the lines of why Shell came out with the V-Power gas.
I was certainly curious as to the truth to V-power being a marketing gimmick or if it is something that actually can and does make a difference.
Just like buying pemium gas, it's probably worth spending a extra few pennies per gallon for gasoline you know will have the the standard or better amount of detergents. It will help lengthen the life of your engine and keep those injectors, plugs, and other intake parts from getting gummed up.
It'll help make sure our 205hp SS' still have 205hp when 100K miles come.
