Im wondering what's the correct pattern to tighten the valve cover on a lsj

Gm doesn't have one for ecotecs. Personally I rotate around the cover skipping every other bolt then come back around and get the ones I passed. Torque spec is 89inlbs

I criss-cross starting from the middle and work my way outwards.
Remember 89inlbs is almost nothing.

FWIW, I just installed an intake plenum spacer on a VQ35, and the torque spec is incredibly low on those two, so low that the maker of the spacer actually recommended using a socket driver (looks like a screwdriver handle) instead of a socket wrench to ensure that you don't over torque it.

No pattern specified, but if you start at the middle and work radially all the way out you will be set.

I've installed many leak free lsj valve covers in my time.

Would it be necessary to replace the gasket? I did some reading and some said it wasn't but I would be a good idea to change it

I'd inspect it.

If the rubber doesn't looked crushed, cracked, or torn, it should be ok to reuse.

ive had my valve cover off now twice and its still in great shape and still leak free

but i also do the criss cross method and then come back again and go over them
