07blackg5's Engine Bay Makeover Thread

I will be updating th OP as work progresses

Please read this so you know whats going on.

I decided that i want to work on cleaning up my engine bay. Its obviously filthy, and i dont need to hear anyone tell me about it. I live on a dirt road at home (away for college), and keeping the bay clean was too much of a pita. Since i am at school and dont see dusty roads for most of the year, i decided to clean up my bay.

I plan on:
-cleaning everything up in terms of dirt
-doing a minor tuck of the factory harness where i can get away with it without hacking
-cleaning up/redoing the wiring i did for my accessories (with the lack of concern for the look of my bay (obviously a new concern))
-painting the intake black/replacing the rusty hardware

I will obviously need to do something with my valve cover. I decided that i want to do a metallic orange/copper, as orange is my favorite color. The only issue is that when i looked at my bay, i realized that my camber plates are gold. i cant decide if the orange/copper will look weird with the gold plates (i guess look like an uncoordinated scheme). I could paint the cover metallic gold and forget it, but i have the orange in my head for whatever reason. Painting the camber plates is out of the question at the moment. Too much work/not enough tools while away at school.

I guess my question for you guys/gals is if you think that the orange would look okay with the gold camber plates, or if i should just do the valve cover in gold.

Sorry for writing so much for such a simple question, but i took an adderall in hopes of getting some emergency studying done. it obviously is backfiring on me. oopsie ha ha

-mike

heres a picture for reference. again, i dont need to hear about how dirty it is. That is the point of this thread.

UPDATE.

after a mild tuck (4.5 hours of pita work), and a quick degrease/cleaning.

Before:

After:

Where to look if you arent good at these games:

UPDATE:

had a weapon r, and bought an ebay cai to replace it. the weapon r was a full 3", but the ebay is 2.5 and steps to 3". well i hacked up my weapon r, and replaced the 2.5" section of the ebay with it.

i was really mad when i got the ebay because it was shown with black couplers, but came with bright ass blue ones.

plan is to buy black couplers, and paint the whole deal black.

UPDATE

i drove it, and it seems to run better with the 3" back opposed to the 2.5" section

are those the changes you were inquiring about?

ive had the ebay on for about a month, and just did this today

2 coats of primer, and one coat of color down. 2 more coats of black to go

UPDATE

done tastefully you can pull off the orange, no one will care about the gold becaue if a part comes that color it doesnt count

it literally took me 4+ hours to remove/reinstall the main wire harness. it was not fun at all

id say there is an easy 9+ hours into this project so far

Oh, wow, maybe I'll just do that opposed to ordering a powdercoated valve cover from Modern Performance. Didn't think spray painting it could look that good. Black, here I come!
