Very bad fuel economy need help!!!

alrite so heres the story again, my car has been getting very poor fuel economy, the type of fuel economy my dads silverado gets.

last night i put 10 dollars of premium fuel in my car (it was on low fuel) me and the girl drove around town for a bit to a book store blah blah blah, this morning im back on low fuel..

i go thro atleast 150-250 dollars a month on fuel for this car..now i wont lie in the summer i drove this car hard..redlining and shifting at high RPM'S even then my fuel ecnono was bad (around 12L/100KM) but now that its colder outside it sits around 13-13.5L/100KM

before i put my KN SRI intake on it was running 10's-12's stock, i still have heard this is very poor fuel mileage..ever since the day i drove it home from the dealership ive had bad mileage.

i fill premium 91 everytime and always had...so please css community this is my cry for help! my finances are wittling away with high gas prices and poor fuel economy, waht could be the reason for this? i dont want to take it itno the dealership and look like a idoit..please help me out!

check your fuel filter. how many miles do you have? i would check your fuel filter, and your air filter first.

stay out of boost. period.

keep it at -10inhg to -15inhg.

if that doesn't work, have the car reflashed at the dealer.

in the winter they have more crap in the gas which gets naturally worse gas mileage, plus colder temps = your car making more power and using more fuel

its only making more power if your foot is telling it to though...making power through advancing ignition due to cold air doesnt affect the amount of fuel burnt.

also, the gas doesnt change from summer to winter except that the octanes may lower a bit...they will remark 89 as 91 since it will act as 91 octane normally would due to the temperatures

really, he just needs to get a wideband reading to see if his AFRs are fucked up...or make sure hes not leaking gas anywhere...
what does the DIC say your mileage is? the DIC just reads what is injected into the cylinder, so if theres a leak anywhere else, it wouldnt show up and thus not match what your calculating on your own

get all maintenance done (fuel filter, oil and oil filter, air filter) make sure tire pressure is right (the new nitrogen works great by the way), stay under 3K as much as possible. dissconnect your battery for a minute or so to reset any hidden codes you may have that would make it run rich and try to use cruise control as much as possible and only step on gas when you have to. if you see the light turning red let the car cruise to a stop. i've been getting 30.8mpg in the city since i've been practicing those driving routines. i have a 2.2 but my friend has a 2.4 and get almost the same.

It takes me a week to go through 1/2 a tank of gas ($20 to fill half tank w/ Sunoco 91 octane). On average i travel about 180 per week. My DIC mpg varies strictly between 19 & 20, never more and never less since i've purchased my 2.4L in july. My current mileage is 3647, I don't abuse my car or race in it but i have been known to drive fast. Your 2.4L balt and my 2.4L balt have pretty much the same performance mods (intake, exhaust, header), the only difference being you have a manual to my automatic transmision. Now with all that considered you get a little more than half the milage per gallon than i'm getting. THATS TERRIBLE!! If your numbers are correct then there is somethig seriously wrong with your vehicle. I would bring it to the dealership asap. I hope my info will be helpful to your issue.

The bottom of the Cobalt tank (wich is small to begin with) is tapered, so putting $10 in it (when low), will seem to disappear pretty quik. As far as 13L per 100K? You gotta lead foot........simple as that

if its truly not you or your heavy ass foot, take it to the dealer for a reflash or let them deal with it.

So what should fuel consumption be?

I've got an '07 2.4 Automatic, I try to keep my revs low and use cruise control as much as possible. Granted it is all city driving.

Even with all of that I'm always sitting between 11-12L/100k, and I always have been since getting the vehicle.

I know someone with a 2.2, and their fuel economy is even a little worse.

1. no need to run premium now its a waist. if u really want 90 ish go to mohawck or hucky and get their regular.
2. $10 worth of premuim is a very miniscule amount of gas, about 8.5 liters at i think its 1.15ish/ liter (just over 2 jugs of milk)
3. it matters very little where u shift unless ur going redictilous (4500-up) the higher rpm's u shift at the less hard the engine has to work in the next gear witch = better econ.

did u ever break in your car when it was new? or did u just start driving it hard right off the lot cause that could have something to do with it as well.

drift to a stop, accelerate slowly and check tire pressure. im getting about 9.4-9.6ish all city. i also took my intake out, found heat was much better as car seemed to warm up faster.

You dont need higher octane fuel if the car does not call for it. Check your air filter check to see if there is gunk on the maf sensor is the sensor right after the air box. make shure the intake manafold is on tight. and the pcv hose is on tight. if you have a leak there it might cause poor econmy if none of that works have somebody that knows what there doing hook a scan tool toit and check the sensor to see if thay are making sence. or maybe you can reset the PCM by unpluging the battery for a few minets itll take a couple drive cyicles to reprogram but it migh help
