use 93 or 94 if you can find it.
if all you can get is 91, use 91.
if you use less in the ss/sc....your an idiot. plain and simple.
(unless you ONLY city drive, and barely make it above 3krpm, or out of 2nd gear)

As many have said use premium, 91, or 93 which ever is available in your area. If you use less you will get detonation and that's not good for your engine. Plus you spent all this money on the high ends SC version so you might as well use the good stuff to get max performance out of it because if you use 89 or 87 the computer will pull timing and you will lose performance.
Don't bother using higher then premium pump gas though because you aren't tuned for it and you are just throwing money away. There will be people who claim to get kick ass performance out of 100 but it's all in their head because without a tune you can't run the extra timing required to get better horsepower out of the race gas.
There that's the lowdown on gas.

If someone tells you to use anything lower than 91 otc in this car never listen to any thing they say! 91 otc and up is what they recommend and as mentioned above, it is what the car is tuned for. I stopped using 87 otc after doing my own and other peoples engine rebuilds and seeing what that crap leaves behind. When you tear an engine down you can tell right away what kind of fuel they use and if they change the oil like they are soposed to. I have always have seen better mpg that is enough to make up for the cost and actually save me money.

93 FTW!!
Exiged...Any higher octane fuel is going to help, but is manufacturer recommended for the SS/SC's because of them being F/I'd..It shouldn't affect you as much with the octane changes, but I have always used at least mid grade in all my rides. The Cobey gets 93 and nothing else though, she spoiled. lol

Use 91 or better, we had a couple gas shortages here and I couldn't get 91 and I throw a code everytime I use the lower octane. Put the 91 in and code goes away within 1/4 of a tank. I think with the CAI I run a little lean.

Damn, I just bought my Cobalt SS/SC; it's an 06' with 6,000 miles on it. The place I bought it from did not have the owners manual (which I plan to get from Chevy asap), so I called the Chevy dealership and they said to use 87 octane. I'm glad I came to this site to check it out.
I actually said, "You're kidding right, a SC'd car takes 87?" and he said yep, the spec is right here in front of me, so I trusted him. I've been running 87 for about a week now, and I'm sure if I switch immediately my car will be fine. As a matter of fact, mine hasn't ever thrown a CEL so I think the ECU has the ability to pull alot of timing if necessary.
That will teach me to trust a Chevy service writer!

In the manual i was reading...Several people said that 2.4L should use 91 but the manual says 91+ for the 2.0L and 87+ for the 2.2 i didn't see anything about the 2.4L i guess i didn't read far enough but i've always run 87 and i've never had any problems..In fact i switched to 91 for a month and my gas mileage didn't increase at all and even if it makes a difference powerwise its not enough to be able to tell
