Why does everyone want smaller winter tires? Are they better or just cheaper?

^^ Cheaper mostly, but also a narrower tire is better in the snow. It can get down to the road surface faster rather than float on top.

Thanks! The winter bling rocks. Car is badass with black steel wheels.

Michelin X-Ice are great. It rides smoother without the low-profile rubber. They seem to handle good on dry road too. Obviously, they offer no-where near the grip of the Pirellis', but that isn't what I bought them for. Their snow and ice traction is fantastic. Didn't slide unless you hammered the brakes.

If you don't have too serious of a winter, look into getting Bridgestone Blizzaks or something similar (winter performance tire) in the stock size. They will offer much better traction in the winter, while still retaining good dry pavement performance. Only problem is they are expensive.

I haven't tried them but I know Goodyear make the all-season tires for Canadian Tire, so they prolly make the snows also. I was gonna buy CT snows but I had a hard time finding the steelies last year, so I ended up at the dealer and put BFG winter slaloms on.

dunlop M3 vs vredstein Wintrac extreme

here are the 2 tire choices I am contemplating on 17"


the vredstein Wintrac extreme's are $20 more per tire but I have to go to a 205(only size option from them) which changes my OD. They are evil looking!
