I test drove both and I went with the Coablt (obviously) The reasons were looks and the cobalt didnt feel so cheap when i test drove it. The srt-4 was nothing special in my book.

Yeah, most of you have said my opinion.... IT'S STILL A NEON! And they aren't that fast.... All I have is an airbox mod, and I took one just the other night! Put a stock SRT on the dyno next to a stock SS/SC and I bet they make just about the same power. Ours are underrated theirs are overrated! Hmmmmmmmmmmmm

i didnt get the srt-4 for a couple reasons. one was i knew i would mod the **** outta it, and being in college, things break and money is low, and not modding the cobalt would be easier (and harder as there were less parts available).. even now, i want to mildly modify the cobalt but if i had the srt4 i would want to be pushin 350+whp

i could still find new srt-4s (with warrantys) but of course they were '05s,but that didnt really matter

cobalts suspension is superior, although the srt4 can be upgraded using mopar parts

i like the cobalts looks better. when i consider two cars of similar power output, then looks and comfort come in next. the cobalt is more comfortable and refined than the srt-4 with only slightly dimished performance

srt-4s are everywhere. i still get looks, although srt-4s get looks--usually bc of their sick exhaust crackle

but i guess i dont care much cuz my boy has an 05 srt-4 and i get to drive it alot and it is a **** load of fun, and that turbo spoolin up and that exhaust gets me everytime, so i dont regret not getting one

like everybody said.. DRIVE BOTH FOR YOURSELF!!!!!!!!!!!! the srt-4 really feels more like a racecar wit the driver feedback and lack of creature comforts and what-not, while the cobalt is a little more of a refined street machine. u cant go wrong with either

I Test Drove Both As Well... Interior Seemed Cheap In The Neon. Where The Cobalt Has Alot More Style Both In The Exterior And Interior Of The Car. Spacious Trunk! Even With The Sub. You Don't Have To Get A Sun And Speed Package To Get A Sub And A Sunroof Comes With The Ss/sc. Xm Radio, smooth Ride, Plus A Large Amount Of Perofmormance Parts Through Gm That Are Covered Under Warranty And Easy Installation. Sure The Srt 4 Has Em As Well But I Think They Only Warranty Up To Stage Ii I Believe.

I drove both and hated the Neon. I dunno, it was definitely fast but to me it screams drag car. Whereas the Cobalt is MUCH more well-rounded when it comes to performance. The handling on the SRT-4 is disappointing whereas the Cobalt has excellent suspension, excellent weight distribution, and is just a whole lot of fun to drive. The interior felt more refined, and really the whole car did.

1. Looks. SRT still looks like a neon
2. Comfort. I am 6'4" and the Cobalt fits me fine.
3. GM brand. Father, brother, and many cousins etc. GM employees
4. Service. I owned a couple new Dodge trucks and their service is horrible. I had a rear brakes problem on the Dakota. It took 5 visits, to 2 different dealers, and it was still never right. They just didn't care. They kept nickel and dimeing me, never fixed the problem correctly. They acted like I was annoying them because there was smoke pouring out of the rear drum. Never got a loaner or anything, even when they kept my truck for over 2 weeks once, for warrantty work.

I just got Stage 2 done, they had issues getting pulley off, and gave me a car the same day for free. Were very apologetic and kept me updated. The work was done right the first time. The also threw in a $72 6000 mile service for free. This was on a upgrade, not even warranty work.

I will never own another Dodge product because of this.

um bro, put them on a dyno and they will make similar HP numbers but an srt4's torque output will absolutely **** on the cobalts. proven time and time again. dodge underrated the srt4s power #'s as well, just not as much as chevy did the cobalt. and u took one the other nite bc u were a better driver than that person.

and my opinion... WHO THE HELL CARS IF ITS STILL A NEON. the drivetrain is completely revamped from a base neon and the suspension is upgraded, as is the body and interior. the car is ballsy. so then an evo is still a lancer and a sti is still a impreza, and **** a lamborghini is still an audi. that argument even pisses me off and i dont own one.. if u dont like the looks of the neon thats cool but dont say.. its still a neon.. wat the hell does that mean??

if you want to go as fast as you can in a straight line, with fwd for some reason, and thats all you care about then go with an srt-4. but if u want a combination of reliability, good looks, great suspension, and a quick car(fast with mods) then get the cobalt ss/sc. i love this car and although it may not feel as fast as other cars it has proven to be faster than cars i didnt dream of competing with, mostly the top two cars on my kill list in the sig. also this car is so smooth and quiet for long trips, can carry a normal conversation on the road at 75+. i think its built like a car that is made to cost much more.

My 2 cents

I know that it is easy to modify, and I also like the looks of the car, but when I test drove the SRT4, I could not get comfortable. The people I met who own them are cool though.

Thank you.

One of the most important factors in owning a car in my opinion is exclusitivity. I rarely see other SS/SC's in omaha. I love my car so much on that fact alone.

my friend has an srt4 which he allowed me to drive to hilton head (he drove back) and i must say that after having to keep my foot on the gas pedal for 5 HOURS STRAIGHT i was pretty convinced to get the SS/sc which has cruise control. we both wanted an srt4, but he got his first, so i thought i would just be copying him too much if i got it too. plus the ss/sc has the mp3 player and nice sound system stock. all in all im glad i went with the SS. but i still miss having 260 lb ft of torque stock!!!!!! all in all it depends on what you want. if you do want ***** to the wall fast, go with the srt4 (i havnt beaten one yet and im a pretty good driver). the ss is a tad more refined with some cool creature comforts.

it's a respect issue

The reason I got the SSS/c over the neon had a lot to do with the respect issue on the street. I live in an area that has a high asain population, and they love their tuners. I've seen some really kick ass cars on the streets here. They know what to expect out of an SRT-4 in most cases. When I render their revered yet dime-a-dozen vtec a piece of overrated junk, the look on their face at the next stop light is priceless. Until the cobalt becomes more common, which it is already doing, we will have something of a sleeper car in an era when every retard in a base civic gets rims and a giant wing. When it came down to choosing the cobalt over all of the other tuner car options, I chose the cobalt because everyone has a vtec or a gti or a celica or a mustang, and I didn't want to be one of them. Besides, everyone knows the only thing Mopar does right is the HEMI, and even that is debatable. For crying out loud, they put four friggen doors on a CHARGER!!!! - they just can't be trusted.

Said it before and ill say it again
both cars are beautiful and IMO should stick together if anything. i hate seeing these "SS vs SRT" threads.

we're FI domestic cars competing in a HEAVY import scene. if anything we should stick together and point out each others strong points. A modded srt will probably beat a modded SS, however that same modded SS would run circles around the modded srt in a actual course.

test drive both, see what feels best TOO YOU and buy what YOU LIKE

i love the constant power of the supercharger. dont get me wrong i love the BOV sound and the surge of power a turbo delivers, but i LOVE the supercharger

Well.

How many girls would rather roll around in a 4dr neon or a hawt ss/sc?

I get many more looks in this than I would in a Srt-4.

Interior, shifter, rims, spoiler.

The car just feels more luxurious and drives a lot better than the neon.

GM and Toyota have been known to partner on certain initiatives. Apparently it's not too widely known. They were working together on Hydrogen Fuel Cell develpment, but they split on that, and tht's the last GM/Toyota partnership I'm aware of.

This is from a thread long ago that has since been locked,

I was in a similar boat trying to figure out srt-4 or ss/sc ... I knew that the srt-4 was faster and had more mods already available and that was always something I looked forward to but when I sat in the ss for the first time it was incredible ... albeit my first test drive was on an ss that was not working correctly as it had boost problems my second test sold me ...

the cars look for me is much more refined and with good lighting in the right conditions it is very exotic looking ... the srt-4 was aggressive and in your face which as a dd I could not justify looking like a punk everywhere I went ...

the drive in the ss is very solid and you get a sense that the car is actually taking care of you with how little road noise you actually can hear ... the interior is comfy and the gf likes the leather seats while friends are surprised that they can actually fit in the back ... the car has ***** on demand as I am sure it took everyone some time to get used to driving it and the breaking is great with enough softness to not jerk you around when the car stops ... the handling in the car is smooth and precise and it will stick to its line with confidence while changing direction suddenly will not make you feel like your gonna fly away ...

as a tuner car it is actually very reserved in the amount of noise that comes from the exhaust as you can barely hear it when cruisin but really hear it if you get on the gas which is perfect for a dd ... the engine is also very calm but when you slam the pedal to the metal get ready to hear it whine ... the srt-4 setup gargles like I do in the morning even when it's sitting still which has its own charm when showing off or driving with a group but when driving casual it would get over bearing ...

overall the cars have their own idea of what a sporty compact tuner should be and I think the ss/sc will draw a more diverse crowd and as I have experienced and seen with our meets and the website it appears that for the most part the ss draws upon any age group tech specs aside everyone is interested in our car ... my $.02

I'm more concerned as to how reliable each car is. It also seems it would be easier for the wife to drive the SS since it won't surge and take off with you like a turbo does. Thanks all for being honest and sharing your opinions.

I noticed some of you mentioned that you were attracted to the SS because it was more rare. Well, can I intrest you in a ZX2? You can run high 13's on just 7 psi on a small turbo! And no one expects to be roasted by an Escort. hehe

Maybe they will eventually make a 4-door SS. Four doors are more practical for a daily driver. The SRT-4 does look a bit ugly but at the same time the SS looks plain. This really doesn't matter since it is only going to be a daily driver. It would also be nice if they made a 4-door SS so insurance would be cheaper.

I've had the chance to drive one SS. They don't pick up and throw you like a turbo spool does so it would be a great daily car. Lets' see how they hold up for the next 4-5 years.

hey man good luck finding a NEW srt 4 with the neon style thats why I chose the cobalt plain and simple SRT4's are gone and another reason i chose the cobalt is bc zzperformance and intense are already getting parts out , i used to own a 02 gtp and it had a lot of work done to it , Cobalt is the next best thing to an srt4 for the money and if your gonna buy an srt 4 you have to buy it used and good luck finding it stock and non stock srt4 = ALREADY BEEN RIPPED A LOT , Thats my 2 cents

If this is your line of thinking when buying a car your game must suck. lol No self respecting girl would even consider what car a guy drives as a factor at all when dating him or whatever. If they do dump the chick because she is no good and will break you.

I selected it based on looks and comfort. When I got in to test one the car just felt right and comfortable. It's wierd, you can't explain it. But when you get in you "just know".
