Your gas milage!
Okay, so like everyone here knows, I'm strongly considering buying a Cobalt, I've read EPA estimates of 21/30 on the SS Supercharged. I'd like for all you guys to post your Cobalt type, year, and gas mileage if you please, and any other little quirks.
This is eventually turning into a mini-science project of mine. LOL. Oh, and has anyone ever owned a 97 Taurus GL and knows the EPA estimates on that. I'm trying to clock it on 87 octane vs. 93, and I want to see how the car performs with the two.
Thanks!

My brother has an F-150 that only gets about 17 in the city and 20 on the highway. 21 on the Supercharged really isn't that big of a difference, is it? Also, how is the Supercharged efficiency next to the plain SS'es?

OH buddy, you deff get alot better then you brother with his F150 for sure!! no worries about that!! EPA estimates are driving 70km/h ( about45mph) on flat land. In reality, you are going to do alot better than hom for sure!!

I have an 05 SS Supercharged. I typically average 22-25 with my normal driving which is mostly in town with the ocassional freeway venture. I typically open it up once or twice a day but try to drive it nicely the rest of the time.
My best was tank was 28 and that was going to California while loaded down for the weekend and with my buddy at the end of December. Our average speed was around 78 according to the computer and that includes stops. We also fought a 20-30 mph headwind when going through the "Windmills" which is an uphill climb.

I find it hard to believe some of the MPG you SS/SC people are getting.
If you're using the DIC for calculations, you may want to check your actual MPG with a calculator.
My DIC says I'm getting 32 mpg.
I actually get ~26.5 mpg.
If you're truly getting above 35 mpg, I really like to know your secret(s).
Even with me *****-footing the throttle, the best I've ever gotten is 28.5 mpg.

The trip back wasn't nearly as good. I guess WOT at 125mph in 4th doesn't help gas milage too much.

I keep my MPG in a log using the old fashion miles driven/gallons put in at fill up. I did quite a bit of experimenting this summer because I was driving the same 32 mile drive everyday for my job for a month straight and I found taking the old highway (speed limit 55 drove 58 on cruise) I got 34.2 mpg. Taking the interstate (speed limit 65, drove 68 on cruise) I got 28.5. Going 75 on the interstate I got 28.5. I tried to stay as consistant as possible which meant shifting from 1st to second at 3k rpms on the on ramp and then going wot until 65. Going the old highway I would do the same except for let off at 55mph.
Now that the election is over and I don't travel any more and I work in an office two miles from my house everyday which is in a small town I have found that I get around 22mpg. Top speed is typicaly 35mph because the top speed limit is 30. I usually shift around 3k rpms.
Obviously my experience show you get less mpg in town. duh! lol The moral of the whole story is that the 5 speed seems ideal for 55-60mph cruising. As with any FI car the less you boost the better your mpg will be.
It sounds to me from the posts you have made regarding gas and mpg that you are on a tight budget or just really freaking worried about something that is minoot. This car gets good mpg for as much fun as it is to drive, but if you really are on a tight budget or just **** about mpg then I suggest getting something like a civic, corolla, or aveo. When you push the SS/SC the mpg goes down fast.

well, the theory is simple... add more air flow, use more gas... just an intake by itself is not bad, and may increase it by one or 2 mpg... may decrease by 1 or 2mpg... either way, it won't be significant...

SS/SC, I get around 27mpg average driving (city/highway mix) and about 34mpg highway, both calculated, not DIC. Highest I've gotten pure highway was 40.4mpg, I went for a brief period where I was getting 37mpg highway fairly regularly.
