ZZP incorrect

Holly F***ing **** has anybody had issueswith ZZP. Just Did My REG for the network tonight mostly to talk about thisproblem. So I bought a stage 2 kit from zzp awhile back. Shorter belt tuneinjectors spark plugs pulley you know the drill. so here is my issue. I am amechanic work for my dad grew up around cars dad owns his own shop has hadit for 40 years been around cars my whole life pops thought me all Iknow and still craving more. But that's here nor there. So I call these guys atzzp said I want a stage 2 kit but nothing too crazy. The guy says ok go 3.1pulley and tune you will get about 20-30 more HP I said well how small can I goif I upgrade to the 42LB INJ. he says 2.9 is the smallest I would go if you gosmaller you need a HP tune and Cams. I did not have the money for that so Itook his advice did 42’s and the tune with a 2.9 pulley. To be honest I was nottoo impressed. After a while the car developed a ping and really just feltsluggish. So I called to see if maybe the tune was bad. I even offered to payfor another tune with no warranty all they did was question my mechanical knowledgetold me I didn’t know what I was talking about and said I needed 60LB INJ torun a 2.9 pulley. The only thing that they helped me on was that the waterpumps for the intercooler tend to go out and will increase your boost temps. Andthey were right the pump was bad, but did not fix the ping or sluggishness. So justabout a week ago I checked my plugs after doing an oil change and they were jetblack. And if you know about internal combustion engines black plugs means torich and a boosted car does not like to be rich it likes to be perfect. I rememberlooking at a post on the network before I registered and saw one guy say he wasrunning a 2.7 on his stage 2 with nitrous and he said his car ran great. So I ordereda 2.7 pulley slapped that baby on and no more sluggishness ping is gone thisbaby runs great now. So my advice to anyone with an LSJ car trust yourjudgement and the only way you will know it will be done right is if you do ityourself….

A canned tune is expected to be rich. Its not specific for your car. If you really want to see the results of your mods, you need a custom hp tune.

do you have a wideband gauge in the car? a 2.7 with 42lb injectors is playing with fire. 42lb injectors are generally hitting 100% duty cycle with a 2.8" pulley. supporting mods (should have a dual pass end plate and 2nd heat exchanger, header, full exhaust and an intake) are also needed to safely run that pulley.

zzp is the top company in the cobalt world. their canned tune sucks, as with all canned tunes. at best they should be run till you can get your car properly tuned, ideally on a dyno.

He was running a 2.9, but I agree it's getting close to playing with fire.

Intake isn't needed until you TVS swap, airbox mod def needs to be done though.

No cooling mods?

Friend went ZZP stage 2, no idea which pulley with a canned tune. It's wicked rich but it's expected.

Also wall of text was impossible to read.

Sounds like you came in here to get a pat on the back, and since that didn't work you're getting hostile... Very mature.

Get the car custom tuned, the ZZP canned tunes are well known (you did research on here, right?) for being very safe/rich/not powerful, even they will admit you will only pick up a small gain (20-30hp) with a stage kit, where on a custom tune there is another 10-20hp gain to be had depending on pulley size.

Also, you're a mechanic, what causes detonation/ping? What are the normal solutions to it? How does cramming more air into the car with more heat via the smaller pulley solve that? Using logic, it sounds like you have another issue besides the soft tune that you still haven't addressed. ZZP does not turn off knock retard, so if there's an audible ping that the PCM can't correct, something is very, very wrong with your car.

In before the ban.

Rule #1 in forums. If you want help at least make your question something that one can read, comprehend and not have to decipher what you are asking.

When I see a rambling continuous long winded paragraph without spacing I just move on.

Rule #2 Don't register on a forum, jump in and start bashing members who've been there for years and even worse start bashing one of the only vendors for our cars. You're just asking to be ignored.

Rule #3 Do as much investigation as possible by READING older posts. Chances are 95% of the time your exact questions are answered.

Whenever I copy and paste a block of text the spacing / paragraphs tend to copy with it.
